EMU SOFTBALL CAMP STAFF Karen Baird Head Coach Head Coach Karen Baird returns for her tenth season, transforming the program that won only six games in her first season to capturing a Mid-American Conference West Division and Tournament title in 2007. In 2011, Baird’s team soared to a 26-18 mark with the program's second-best winning percentage in program history (.591), second only to the 1988 campaign where the Eagles went 36-21 (.631). The 2009 season was marked by a 7-game improvement over the previous season record, including a no-hitter vs. Albany and a 3-2 win over #17 Louisville in the South Florida Tournament. Baird, the 2007 MAC Coach of the Year, hit the 100-win plateau as the Eagle head coach during the 2008 season with a 1-0 win against Bucknell (2-16-08). Baird also won the 200th game of her 11-year coaching career during 2008, defeating San Diego (229-08), 1-0. Baird’s teams have also performed consistently in the classroom, finishing in the top 20 in Grade Point Average the past eight seasons.

Marissa Young Assistant Coach The 2011-12 season marks the first for Assistant Coach Marissa Young. Young will primarily work with pitchers and catchers and will assist with hitting. She will also serve as recruiting coordinator for the Eagles. Young previously served three seasons as Head Coach of the Concordia University softball program in Ann Arbor. In her first year at the helm, the Santa Ana, Calif. native helped guide a young Cardinals squad to the second most wins in a single season since their 2002 NAIA National Tournament run. Prior to coaching, Young was a standout player at the University of Michigan. During her career, she showcased her talent both on both sides of the field, garnering Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Year accolades in 2002 and Big Ten Player of the Year honors in 2003. A three-time All-American selection, Young finished her prominent career for the Maize and Blue as the all-time strikeout leader (927) and her 88 career wins became the second-best efforts in program history. Offensively, Young matched the then-program’s single season home run record after drilling 13 round-trippers in 2003.
