FORMULA FOR MIRACLES VIP CLUB SPECIAL EVENT Mastering Attention ©2013 Brent Phillips

Day 6: Hearing Silence and Seeing Space Previously we briefly mentioned the discovery that the open focus attention state is correlated with synchronous alpha brain waves, and that learning to master the power of your attention is a critical and profoundly powerful step to reducing stress, improving intuition, increased physical and mental health, better relationships, and (because you'll be generally happier and better grounded) making a lot more money. We also mentioned that Dr Fehmi spent a lot of time alone with his neuro-feedback equipment, trying to force his brain to get into the synchronous alpha state...and found that using lots of focused effort and "forcing it" just didn't work. Today we're going to pick up on that thread and explain exactly how you can learn to quickly, easily, and effortlessly access the open focus state and generate powerful synchronous alpha brain waves! The first step is to recognize that open focus and synchronous alpha are not something you can force to happen, any more than you can force someone to fall in love, or force a plant to grow faster, or force 9 women to get together and have a baby in just one month. All of these things are examples of the Divine Feminine, which is the energy of nurturing, growth, expansion, effortlessness, and the power of the void. By contrast, the energy of the Divine Masculine is purposed, forceful, directed, and grounded. Because "what you resist, will persist", the more you are in resistance to not having open focus attention (or the correlated synchronous alpha state), and the more you are pushing yourself away from it. (And the Universe works the same way with money, health, love, etc; for example, the more you are in resistance to poverty and trying really hard to make sure you aren't or never will be poor, the more you will attract poverty and actually push away your wealth and prosperity.) Hence, the first trick to achieving open focus is to stop trying so hard to achieve it! It's more something that you relax into, rather than something you can tense up and force to happen.

The second trick Dr Fehmi discovered was that focusing on objects or sounds or particular sensations did not work. Instead, what does work is focusing on space and silence; in other words, stop focusing on the "stuff" you are perceiving, and instead focus on the void that holds the "stuff"! A great way to start your open focus practice is to sit down, close your eyes, and simply imagine the space between your eyes. If you can, really FEEL the space, but do so without effort – simply relax and let the feeling and imagining of space wash over you. Then, you might imagine the space between your first finger and thumb - simply relax and let the feeling and imagination of space wash over you. You can expand this awareness to your other senses as well – for example, instead of focusing on hearing sounds, focus on hearing the silence from which the sounds emerge. It's so simple and so powerful it's hard to believe it's real, but this trick really works! Here's some important principles for developing, maintaining, and deepening your ability to master flexible focus and achieve and open focus state:     

You can't be sure if you're doing it "right" You can't be sure you know what you are dong; You can't be sure what the results will be; Anytime you are trying to "make sure" or "get it right" or "figure it out", you're in the intellect and engaging beta brain waves and narrow/objective attention focus; You don't actually need to know any of these principles or guidelines!

Also included with today's article is a special guided meditation I created based on Dr Fehmi's work. FYI - I contacted his staff and attempted to get permission to distribute one of his meditations to the VIP Club, but they wouldn't give me permission, so instead I have created my own version based on his work. It's important to me to always act ethically and professionally, and since I have purchased ALL of the material he has available and have registered for his live training class, and I am clearly and openly crediting his work as the inspiration and basis for this guided meditation, I don't see a problem with creating my own version so you can try this at home. If you are interested in getting Dr Fehmi's meditations you can get some included with his book The Open Focus Brain, and there are some you can get at his Web site at www.openfocus.com The meditation is approximately 20 minutes long, and guides you through a process of imagining focusing on the space and silence around you to take you into a deep open focus state. As with all skills, you'll get better at open focus with practice. I would expect you are likely to have a profound and powerful experience – I certainly did! If you don't, just keep practicing and you'll get it over time. Dr Fehmi recommends using his meditations at least twice a day, but my personal experience was that twice a day was too much, as it detoxed me too quickly and made me sick with a pretty nasty healing crisis, so I had to back off to using it once every other day. Be cautioned that this meditation is INCREDIBLY POWERFUL, so please use it carefully and responsibly!

Ideally, find a quiet, isolated space where you will not be disturbed. Please DO NOT ever use this or any similar meditation while driving, or operating machinery, or cooking or handling knives or hot water or oil, or while walking near traffic, or near any potentially dangerous tools, objects, or circumstances. At first it's fine to lie down on your couch and close your eyes, but if you fall asleep, you might consider sitting in a chair or standing up instead. (If you're like me and have significant experience with holding a theta brain state while awake and conscious, you shouldn't have any trouble staying awake and present, even if you are lying down with your eyes closed.) After you get the hang of it, trying doing it with open eyes, because an open-eye open focus state is ultimately what you need to integrate this practice into your day to day life!
