2014 NAPA VALLEY BENCH BLEND With roots deeply anchored in the Napa Valley, William Hill Estate® crafts luxury Chardonnay and Bordeaux varietal wines from the undiscovered vineyards of California’s most celebrated regions. Beginning with William Hill Estate’s 140-acre benchland vineyard near the Silverado Trail, Winemaker Mark Williams turns to the hidden corners of southern Napa, the North Coast and the Central Coast to create a unique collection of rich, expressive wines. ABOUT THE WINE: Our William Hill Estate Bench Blend is a showcase of nuanced, artful blending. It starts with aromas of dried flowers, plum and spice, all leading to rich flavors of dark fruit, baked cherries, dusty chocolate and more. The intensity and luscious mouthfeel are balanced by integrated tannins and a deft touch of acidity. Together, those add a sense of freshness that lasts through the long, layered finish.

VITICULTURE NOTES: In 2014, 74% of the grapes for this wine were selected from our estate vineyard on the Silverado Bench. The balance came from other premier vineyards, including Monte Rosso, Thomann Station, Sage Canyon and Snows Lake vineyards. Overall, 2014 was a very warm and dry growing season in the Napa Valley. These conditions created rich, complex fruit and paved the way for a harvest that was roughly two weeks earlier than usual. Wines from this year have great depth of flavor and long aging potential. WINEMAKER NOTES: The grapes for our William Hill Estate Napa Valley Bench Blend were fermented on the skins in upright, stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 90°F. All the lots were separately drained and pressed, using only free run juice. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 16 months in barrels of French oak (14% new) and American oak (7 % new).
