Triumphal Entry Knowing He had come to earth to die Jesus told His disciples the time was approaching. They didn’t understand. Peter even dared to argue with Jesus. It didn’t make sense. He was the Messiah sent to save them all. How could he be killed? They didn’t realize He was sent to die for their sins. The city of Jerusalem was full, because it was a time of great celebration. As they were approaching the city, Jesus sent two disciples ahead. He told them they would find a colt that had never been ridden. He instructed them to return to Him with the colt. If anyone questioned them they were to answer it was needed by the Lord and would be returned. The left and found things just as He had said. They brought the colt to Jesus. After they covered it with their cloaks, Jesus mounted and rode the colt. At that moment many people believed. They knew Jesus was God’s son. They celebrated and honored Him. Many spread their cloaks on the road and others spread branches to celebrate Him as He passed. They shouted to glorify His name. The children shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David.” The chief priests were furious. They didn’t believe in Jesus, and they were angry He allowed such things to be said. They questioned Him, and Jesus announced that the Lord called praise from the lips of children. That made them angrier. They were determined to stop Jesus. Jesus only had one week remaining until His death. He spent most of that time teaching at the temple. He boldly proclaimed He was the Messiah. He didn’t cower in fear afraid of those desiring to kill Him. He talked like no one ever had, because He was different than all others. He was the Son of God. The crowds loved Jesus. The religious leaders hated Him. Jesus had emotions just as we do. It was a hard time for Him. It was scary. He didn’t want to die. However, He faced His fear and set His eyes on His Father. He was determined to bring Father honor by obeying and standing tall. When you face a difficult situation, follow Jesus’ example. Don’t be concerned about pleasing people. Obey God, and He will love, honor, and protect you.
