NOTICE: If a PELA member represents an employer in a case or matter in which another

PELA member represents an employee of that employer, all attorneys of the firm representing the employer must discontinue their use of the Listserv during the pendency of the case or matter. This policy furthers PELA’s mission and allows the

employee’s lawyer to maintain the benefit of other members’ knowledge and support, while preventing the employer’s attorney from gaining insight into the plaintiff’s strategy tactics, work product and thought processes. PLEASE SEE THE FULL POLICY and the LISTSERV Do’s and Don’ts attached.

7.

Choose a law firm, returning attorney membership, or first time attorney membership. ____

Individual returning attorney membership annual dues: $135.00

8.

Additional donation to PELA’s lobbying fund in the amount of ________ to help PELA fight for legislation protecting employees in the state of Colorado (donation optional but encouraged).

PLEASE NOTE: No portion of PELA dues is tax deductible as a charitable contribution. 40% of every attorney’s membership dues ($54 of membership dues of $135 and $20 of member dues of $50 for firms who have over 4 dues paying attorneys, and $27 of new member dues of $67.50) will directly fund PELA’s lobbying efforts so that PELA remains an active participant in legislative activities that affect employees; that portion of your dues is therefore NOT tax deductible. The remainder of members’ dues may be tax deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense. Please consult your tax advisor for further guidance as deductibility may depend on individual circumstances.

Please return completed forms along with check payment made out to Colorado PELA (sorry, no credit cards, maybe next year):

LIST OF PELA COMMITTEES Colorado employees, and the attorneys that represent them, greatly benefit from the collective effort and dedication of our members. There are many opportunities for you to be more involved! If you’d like to join any of the below committees, please simply check the box to the left of the committee name and send this sheet back with your membership application.

Member Name: _________________________________________ I’d like to join the following committees:

SOCIAL MEDIA COMMITTEE The Social Media Committee is responsible for keeping PELA’s Twitter, Facebook and Website current and for adding content to those outlets. Clayton Wire is the chair of this committee.

RETREAT COMMITTEE The retreat committee is responsible for all aspects of programming and logistics for our annual retreat which will be held in August. This committee is headed by the PELA Vice President (Ben Lebsack).

LISTSERV COMMITTEE The listserv committee is on standby to review any disputes that may arise based upon the use of the listserv. In the past such disputes have primarily included whether or not a PELA member should be temporarily removed from the listserv based upon two members representing opposing parties in litigation. The current committee chair is Rhonda Rhodes.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE The membership committee is responsible for finding ways to encourage new membership. This includes outreach to firms/attorneys who practice plaintiff employment law and outreach to law students who wish to focus on this area of the law. The current committee chair is Sarah Parady.

STATE COURT OUTREACH (CADA) COMMITTEE The mission of the State Court Outreach (CADA) Committee is to design programs, including CLE programs and educational programs targeting the judiciary, to educate practitioners as well as judges on the changes to CADA and practice of employment law in state court. This committee is chaired by Paula Greisen.

LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE PELA’s Legislative Committee deals with legislative proposals, generally in the Colorado General Assembly. We have reviewed bills in the state legislature, proposed legislation, participated in the drafting process, helped to build a coalition to promote expansion of the remedies available under our state anti-discrimination statute, met with legislators and members of the legislative staff, met with representatives of the Governor’s office, testified in legislative hearings, and contacted legislators’ constituents to try to build support for our legislative proposals. We have more than a dozen members, but we can always use more help. Our busiest season is during the 120 days that the Colorado General Assembly is in sesssion, starting in early January of each year. We have worked very closely with the lobbying firm that represents PELA’s, our members’ and clients’ interests in the state legislature. We meet sometimes on a weekly basis during the heart of the legislative session, less often at other times. Barry Roseman is the current committee chair.
