Head Coach Tom Pajic Year at QU 5th Year Record at QU 19-30 (.388) Overall Record 19-30 (.388)
UNDER THE LIGHTS: The Quincy University football team will play the first night game in QU Stadium since the program’s 1986 reinstatement on Saturday at 6 p.m. against the University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds are the only team to have won the Great Lakes Valley Conference football title in the four years the league has sponsored the sport. They entered the season having lost just one game in conference play, but are 1-2 this season against GLVC opponents. HISTORIC DAY: The Hawks come into the game against the Greyhounds riding the momentum of a 55-14 win over William Jewell. In that game, senior wide receiver Eric Poindexter (Newport News, Va./Warwick/ Monroe College) established new standards in the QU record book. The 5-foot-11 Poindexter set school and GLVC records in receptions (20) and receiving yards (317) and tied the QU mark for touchdown catches (three). He is the only player in any level of NCAA football to
50
have 300 receiving yards in a game this season. Poindexter is also the first NCAA Division II player to have at least 317 receiving yards since former Saginaw Valley State and current Green Bay Packers wideout Jeff Janis had 331 yards on Oct. 26, 2013. Poindexter hauled in two 19yard touchdowns in the first half and a 77-yard touchdown in the third quarter. He now ranks fifth in Division II with 762 receiving yards. PURPOSEFUL YARDS: Poindexter also had 50 kickoff return yards and eight punt return yards in the game to finish with 375 all-purpose yards. It marked the third time this year he had more than 200 all-purpose yards, which combines receiving, rushing and all return yardage. He leads the nation in all-purpose yards per game (205.0). COLOR ME SHOCKED: Poindexter earned GLVC Offensive Player of the Week honors last week. He was previously the GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 29, 2014.
Saturday’s game against Indianapolis serves as the 50th game in the head coaching career of Tom Pajic, who coached his first game on Aug. 31, 2012 at Northwood.

Hawk Notes GETTING HIM THE BALL: With the headlines rightfully getting placed on Poindexter with his historic performance, the first half of the passing connection, quarterback Robbie Kelley (Rochester, Ill.) was outstanding in his own right. The redshirt-sophomore was 30-for-49 for 447 yards and five touchdowns. The touchdown mark tied a school record, previously only held by Bobby Brenneisen set in 2011. The yardage total was the second-most in school history and just the second time QU quarterback has reached the 400-yard mark. His 30 completions were also the third-best in school history. NO TURNOVERS: One key to Quincy’s win over the Cardinals was the offense’s ability to control the ball. Kelley was not intercepted on 49 attempts and the Hawks did not put the football on the ground. Quincy came into the game with nine lost fumbles in five games. Meanwhile, the Hawks have been intercepted just three times this season, ranking 16th in the nation in interceptions thrown. Only three teams with three or fewer interceptions have thrown more passes than QU. MORE PICKS OF PASSES: The Hawks intercepted Jewell quarterback Brad Strauss four times and also stripped him in the backfield to give the Hawks a plus-5 turnover margin. Three of the Hawks’ interceptions came at their own 1-yard line. Freshman safety DT Christiansen (O’Fallon, Mo./Living Word Christian) picked off a pass in the second quarter and returned it 80 yards to the WJC 19-yard line, setting up Poindexter’s second touchdown. Redshirt-junior cornerback Adehkeem Brown (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue) intercepted passes on back-to-back Jewell possessions in the third quarter, both at the 1-yard line. Finally, sophomore cornerback Christopher Parker (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) had a 65-yard interception return in the fourth quarter that set QU up at the WJC 5-yard line, leading to a touchdown. The strip sack by redshirt-senior defensive end Brad Eckols (Home-
wood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) also came in the fourth quarter. BIG TARGET: Redshirt-junior tight end Owen Schoenenberger (Evansville, Wis.) made the most of his receptions last week, catching two passes for 22 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Wisconsin native has five touchdowns and 23 catches on the season (21.7 percent). CLIMBING THE RECORDS: Poindexter has a chance to become Quincy University’s all-time leading receiver this week as he sits just 18 yards behind Justin Dickens for the career mark. Poindexter has played just three seasons in a QU uniform after transferring from Monroe College. QU All-Time Receiving Yards Name Yards Years 1. Justin Dickens 2,506 2010-13 2. Eric Poindexter 2,488 2014 – 3. Josh Breitbach 2,165 1993-96 4. Chris Jenkins 1,909 2006-09 5. Mike James 1,866 2005-08 BOBO’S BREAKOUT: Redshirt-freshman running back Dominique Bobo (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade/Valparaiso) saw his most extended action against William Jewell, rushing 15 times for 75 yards and his first career touchdown. He is the Hawks’ third-leading rusher behind redshirt-freshman Jaylan James (St. Louis, Mo./Miller Career Academy) and backup quarterback Andrew Rund (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Priory). James has 507 rushing yards and Rund has 143 with Bobo just behind at 140. AIR DEFENSE: QU maintains the top pass defense in the GLVC, allowing just 157.5 passing yards per game, a figure that ranks 11th in the nation. QU and McKendree are tied for the GLVC lead with 10 interceptions. UP NEXT: The Hawks leave GLVC play next Saturday (Hawktober 22) with a trip to Davenport (Mich.).
