2016 SHS Cross Country Event Schedule Packet Team, Attached you will find the 2016 Cross Country Event Schedule packet that should provide almost all information for the season events ahead, such as: • • • • • •

Included in the packet is the information provided to the coach. The team should review before each event to ensure they know the basic information and specific information regarding use of the property. Athletes do not pay meet fees. In addition the athletes should do the following before events: • • •

3 days before event, organize a clean uniform including socks and warmups, inspect shoes making sure you have both training shoes and race spikes ready. Take a few minutes to review schedule and course layout diagram. Plan accordingly. 2 days before event, ensure you are becoming recovered with a nutrition and get to bed early for 8-10 hours rest. Take a few minutes to review schedule and course layout diagram. Plan accordingly. 1 day before event, check uniform and shoes/socks again. Pack bag with gear, snacks packed, spare $ for additional food after events, $ for meet t-shirts. Take a few minutes to review schedule and course layout diagram. Plan accordingly. Everyday student-athletes should stay ahead of studies and projects. An early start with assignments means you don’t get behind and have conflicts with your sport. Use meet travel effectively to work on homework, reading, studies, self-quizes. During self-transport events, all athletes must check-in with a coach prior to departure. On return trips with a bus, be sure to contact your ride when the team departs to let your ride know your estimated time of arrival (ETA) at school. Please get picked up on time. It is also a long day for coaches. After meets, please hand wash uniforms with just a little bit of detergent. Then let drip dry. Fabric softeners and dryers will reduce the life and wicking properties of the fabric. 1

2016 SHS Cross Country Event Schedule Packet NOTES: County practice @ Rockbridge Academy To All AACPS Cross Country Coaches: As you know, we are changing venues for the AACPS Cross Country County Championship this year. The new location will be at the Rockbridge Academy Course, specifically located at the Belvoir Scotts Plantation off of Generals Hwy. We are very fortunate that the Rockbridge Academy Administrative and Athletic staff has agreed to let us use this property and would like to continue a good relationship with them so we can have this opportunity in future years. In order to keep this a good relationship, I need to make everyone aware of the following: 1. The property is not public property, it is privately owned by Rockbridge Academy. This means that no one is allowed to be on the property unless they have been given permission to do so by Rockbridge Academy. As coaches we are not to bring our athletes to the property at any time nor should our athletes be running there on their own at any time. 2. There is a family that has their home on the property. If people are on the property without them being aware of it, it causes a big security problem. This is another reason why coaches, athletes, etc should not be going to the property to run, train, or check out the course. 3. Rockbridge Academy is allowing all of us to have a practice day at the facility/property in August. This gives ample and fair opportunity for teams to run on the course, get familiar with the course, and determine proper training to prepare during the season. The main goal of this was to keep coaches, athletes, etc. off of the property during the season and off season. We are very fortunate to have Rockbridge Academy allow us the opportunity to use their facility for our Cross Country County Championship and we would like to keep a good relationship with them. In order to continue this, we ask that you, your athletes, and your parents respect the Belvoir Scotts Planations/Rockbridge Academy property. This means that no athlete, parent, coach should be on the property other than our scrimmage on August 19th or the County Championship on October 26th. If we have any athletes, coaches, parents at the facility/property, we will have to take further action as an Administrative Athletic Staff. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Team the course will be setup on Monday Labor Day starting at 9 AM. It should take only 2-3 hours. I will assign course setup leaders for different sections of the course. They will work with parents and team members to setup course. We will take a 1 hour snack break and then start a 90 minute practice workout on the course. Most of the course will stay setup for the fun run. So, there will be minimal work the night before or morning of the event.
