High School athletes is similar in the fact that today our athletes work year around to get better at their sport (or sports as we have many multisport athletes) and have a chance to compete on their high school team. We often forget about the endless hours in the weight room, on the track, on the driving range, in the gym and on the field just to have a chance to play for Whiteland high school. There is no guarantee that all that hard work will pay off. Coaches in some sports have to make difficult cuts as there are only so many spots on the squad. Hopefully, we are teaching our student athletes about how the real world works. Sometimes you go to school, study and prepare but still don't get the job you want when they hire someone else. What athletics does do is help give you the skills needed to handle adversity and defeat and bounce back. It teaches you that you may not always be the most talented but you can always be the hardest worker. Athletics teaches you about the greater good of the group instead of just what's best for the individual. Being a high school athlete is not who you are, it is just what you do. It is a small part of your overall life of faith, family, education and recreation. Enjoy every minute because that phase of your life will be over before you know it. Best of luck to all the teams this year.

Whiteland Warriors Girls Golf Season Outlook Hello everyone! Going into my first season as the Girls Golf Coach I am very excited about the talent that we have on the team. This year I am thrilled to call The Legends of Indiana our home course. They offer a wonderful practice facility and plenty of golf holes to help us build on the talent and success that was already in place. We had three seniors graduate, Savannah Craven, Lauren Kumpf and Taylor Lucas. Audrey Eckart will be our lone senior this season and I could not ask for anyone better to lead our team; she sets a wonderful example for the underclassmen as far as attitude and work ethic. Also returning are Caitlyn Williams and Rachel Giroud (both grade 11), Bri Harwell, Jaima Schilawski, Mason Pendleton (grade 10) and rounding out our team are the incoming freshmen, Lydia Collier, Allie Watson, Kierra Mitchell and Abby Mott. In golf it is important to focus on the shot that is right in front of you and that is what I plan on doing; not looking too far ahead or thinking about what is behind us. However, I truly believe as our season progresses that Whiteland will become a force to be reckoned with and I look forward to sharing our accomplishments with you!

The boys soccer team will look for continued success after the record breaking season in 2015 that ended with a conference championship and a trip to the sectional final. After losing 13 players to graduation and transfers, we are looking to start fresh and hit the ground running in 2016. We have had over 40 guys coming to summer workouts, working hard to improve. With the growth of soccer in our community and the numbers we have coming out, we again have been able to build a set of talented rosters for both JV and Varsity. On varsity, we return 10 players that logged minutes last season, all of whom have been working hard in the offseason to get better. We have some really good leaders and hope to continue building a successful soccer program here at Whiteland. Players to watch: Andrew Morgan, Shawn Sullivan, JT Beers, Lalen Ralte, Alec Given.
