The 29th-ranked CSU men’s team will compete against three other ranked schools – No. 3 Oregon, No. 21 Washington and No. 24 Washington State. Rounding out the men’s field are Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Idaho and Seattle. Highlighting the Rams’ competition on the women’s side are No. 4 Oregon, No. 12 Washington and Harvard, who is receiving votes in the USTFCCCA national poll. The CSU women’s cross country team will also compete against Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Seattle and Washington State. “This meet will be high-caliber but not a big meet,” Colorado State head cross country coach Art Siemers said. “The Washington Invitational setup is a little different from the one at the Griak, where there were over 30 teams, and nine or 10 ranked teams on each side. It’ll be nice because we’ll be able to get into a race and establish our own gameplans easier than having hundreds and hundreds of athletes surrounding you at the very beginning – that can sometimes kind of throw you off your race. This will give us a lot of confidence, racing some of the best teams in the country but in a smaller format.”

Home meets in bold

Last time out, redshirt junior Jerrell Mock led the CSU men’s cross country team with a win at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational, clocking an 8k time of 25:06.4. Grant Fischer (25:37.6) joined Mock in the top 25 with a 22nd-place finish, while Eric Hamer (25:52.3) placed 40th as the men’s team finished seventh out of a 29-team field. Ali Kallner (22:43) placed 50th in the 6k to lead the CSU women. 2015 MOUNTAIN WEST MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION JERRELL MOCK

Jerrell Mock Named MW XC Men’s Athlete of the Week - Following his big win at the Roy Griak Invitational, Jerrell Mock was named the Mountain West Cross Country Men’s Athlete of the Week on Sept. 27, 2016. - Mock’s victory marked the first time since 2010-11 (Arizona) that individual athletes from the same school had won back-to-back individual titles at the Roy Griak Invitational, as teammate Jefferson Abbey won the individual title last season. In Griak records that date back to 1986, only five other programs have accomplished that feat. - The Logan, Utah native has steadily improved upon his previous Griak performances, as he finished in second behind only Abbey last season. Mock has placed no lower than seventh, which was his finish in his freshman season.

CSU INVITE RECAP (SEPT. 2)

ROY GRIAK INVITATIONAL RECAP (SEPT. 24)

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State men’s and women’s cross country teams each opened their respective 2016 seasons with third place finishes at the CSU Invite on Friday night at the Hughes Stadium cross country course. Senior Janelle Lincks led the women’s squad on Friday night, clocking a time of 17:44 to place ninth. Redshirt sophomore Kate White placed 16th with a time of 18:17, while redshirt senior Alex Hess crossed the finish line in 18:23 to place 17th. Redshirt junior McKenna Spillar just missed the top-20, finishing the 5k in 18:34 and in 22nd place. The CSU men’s squad was paced by redshirt freshman Anthony Laurita, who finished in 15:17 to place 15th. Laurita was joined in the top-20 by redshirt sophomore Trent Powell, who clocked a time of 15:17 to finish in 17th place. Freshman Graeme Schroeder, who ran unattached on Friday, placed 30th with a time of 15:30. As a team, Colorado won the men’s college 5k with 15 points, while Colorado State registered its third-place team finish with 104 points. Air Force won the women’s meet with 39 points, 18 points ahead of Colorado State (57). Air Force’s Gillespie Carina won the college women’s 5k with a time of 17:33, while Ryan Forsyth of Colorado ran a time of 14:58 to finish first in the college men’s 5k. IN THEIR WORDS Colorado State head cross country coach Art Siemers On hosting the CSU Invite: “It was a great event today. We had a lot of high school teams out here and it’s always fun to showcase Colorado State. It went smooth, which is always our No. 1 priority.” On the team’s approach to the meet: “I thought we did a great job. We had a lot of young people out there today to get them experience. We also had some veterans out there, like Janelle Lincks, who was our top girl today. It’s exciting how motivated a lot of teammates were to cheer them on today, and they’ll be in uniform next meet when we’re at full force. Overall, I was just really proud of the effort. That’s all we asked from them today: not to worry about times or place, but just a good, strong effort. This will set up a nice progression for some of our big meets, such as when we fly to Minnesota and Washington.” STAT OF THE MEET Six CSU freshmen placed in the top-50 on Friday: Emma Atwell (38th), Forrest Barton (46th), Jacob Brueckman (47th), Satchel Caldwell (40th), Anthony Laurita (15th) and Graeme Schroeder (30th). NOTES - Alex Hess’ 17th-place finish on Friday is her highest career finish in any cross country event. Her previous best was 23rd at last season’s CSU Invite (Sept. 4, 2015). - Janelle Lincks’ ninth-place finish is her highest finish in any cross country event since last season’s CSU Invite (Sept. 4, 2015), where she placed sixth (17:41.8). - Trent Powell’s time of 15:17 is a new personal best in the 5k. It improved upon his previous collegiate best, 16:00.7, by 43 seconds (Oct. 2 – ND Invite). - Kate White’s time of 18:17 is the second-fastest 5k time of her career, only behind her time of 17:45.3 at the ND Invitational on Oct. 2, 2015. - White’s 16th-place finish is the highest finish of her career in any cross country event, edging her previous-best of 32nd at last season’s CSU Invite (Sept. 4, 2015). - Every athlete on the CSU women’s cross country team placed within the top40. The women’s field included a total of 89 athletes.

FALCON HEIGHTS. Minn. – Colorado State’s Jerrell Mock made his 2016 debut in commanding fashion, winning the prestigious Roy Griak Merrill Fischbein Gold Men’s 8k with a time of 25:06.3 on Saturday afternoon at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course. Mock’s victory on Saturday marks the second consecutive season in which a Ram has won the men’s individual title at the Roy Griak Invitational, as current teammate Jefferson Abbey won the 8k last season. Mock finished second in the 2015 race. Mock and Abbey combine for the first back-to-back individual Roy Griak titles by athletes from the same school since Arizona won consecutive men’s individual championships in 2010 and 2011. Dating back to 1986, that feat has only been accomplished by five other schools. Joining Mock amongst the top-25 finishers was fellow junior Grant Fischer, who placed 22nd amongst the field of 263. Fischer clocked a time of 25:37.6. Sophomore Eric Hamer crossed the finish line in 25:52.3 to place 40th and round out top performances by the CSU men’s team. The women’s team was led by sophomore Ali Kallner, who clocked a time of 22:43 to place 50th. Senior Janelle Lincks finished 55th with a time of 22:50.9 while redshirt junior McKenna Spillar ran the 6k in 23:15.1 to place 82nd. As a team, the Colorado State men’s squad placed seventh out of the 29-team field with 178 points, while the Ram women placed 13th out of 36 teams with 409 points. Portland won each of the men’s and women’s titles with 69 and 74 points, respectively. IN THEIR WORDS Colorado State head cross country coach Art Siemers On Jerrell Mock’s performance: “Jerrell Mock ran a superb race today, probably the best race he’s run in a Rams uniform. He beat a very solid field of guys today and pretty much controlled the race. He ran very smart in the pack. Later in the race, the best strategy for him to win against some of the faster guys was to really attack the hills when some of their legs started to tire towards the end and it worked to perfection. He had a great finish, and he brought us back an individual champion for the second year in a row on the men’s side.” On the overall performance of both teams: “We looked a little bit tired out there, but we’re training very hard and it’s early in the season. Some of our athletes had their first race today and you could definitely see some of the rust on their legs. Next week, we’ll get another opportunity for most of the team to race in Washington. We’ll keep building on where we’re at and build some confidence so that some of our younger athletes know that we can compete with the best teams in the country. That’s what we strive for every day.” Redshirt junior Jerrell Mock On the Roy Griak field and conditions: "It seemed like it went out pretty fast today. It was definitely really sloppy and muddy so you had to kick out your legs really fast. It was a lot of fun and there were a lot of good runners here today and it’s really exciting to be competing with them. The mud always surprises you, you plan in your head that it’s going to be hard and tough but you don’t know until you’re out doing it." STAT OF THE MEET 2016 Roy Griak men’s individual 8k champion Jerrell Mock has steadily improved in the meet every season. Mock’s lowest finish in the Roy Griak was seventh in his freshman season, before progressively impressive finishes of second place last season and first place this season. NOTES - Only five other schools – Arizona, BYU, Iowa State (twice), Providence and Wisconsin – have had an individual men’s Roy Griak champion in back-to-back seasons according to records that date back to 1986. The most recent school to do it was Arizona in 2010-11. - None of Colorado State’s top seven runners on the men’s side – Jerrell Mock, Grant Fischer, Eric Hamer, Cole Rockhold, Carson Hume, Satchel Caldwell and Jefferson Abbey – finished outside of the top 100. The men’s field included 263 runners. - Ali Kallner has finished within the top-50 in each of her two career Roy Griak races. Kallner placed 25th last season.
