Section 2. Residency: In order for a player to be eligible to play on any travel tournament team one parent or guardian must have primary residence in the Borough of South Plainfield. The player must have participated in or been registered for South Plainfield Recreation Softball. If the South Plainfield Recreation Softball program does not have an age group for a player(s) to participate in, only the residency rule shall apply for that player(s). Additional Non Resident players can be placed on the travel teams based on the SPPPA bylaws Section 3. Age group: It is highly recommended that all players tryout to play within their age group as outlined in Article 1 Section 1. a. If a player would like to try out for a higher age group the following will apply during the tryout process 1. The parent or guardian of the player must present the request to try out for the higher age group in writing or by email to the executive board no less than 7 days before the first tryout date for that age group 2. The Executive Board will confirm that the player meets the eligibility requirements as outlined in this section and advise the parent or guardian of the Board’s findings 3. The player can only tryout for one age group and cannot switch age groups after beginning the tryout process 4. The player must be the higher age in their current age group as listed in Article 1 Section 1 in order to be eligible to tryout for the next higher age group. A player that is the lower age in any age group is not eligible to tryout for the higher age group

5. If eligible, the player can only tryout one age group higher 6. If the team manager wishes to select a younger player on his/her roster that is trying out for a higher age group, that younger player must be in addition to the number of players the manager selects for the team roster (12 minimum). That minimum number shall be comprised of players from the age eligible players in the tryout, not players that are attempting to move up (i.e. the Manager must carry 12 age eligible players + the younger player that was selected to play a higher age group = the manager then has a 13 player roster. If the manager wants to carry more players, the roster must always consist of 12 age eligible players) 7. If a player attempts a tryout for the next higher age group as described above, the player will be eligible for either the primary or secondary team (if applicable) in that age group 8. If the player does not make the roster of either a primary or secondary team in the age group for which they have tried out for, the player is NOT eligible to tryout for or play for the younger age group 9. If there are not enough players from the dates of the tryout process to fill the roster of the PRIMARY TEAM ONLY in any age group, excluding 8U, the team manager may be able to use the additional players from the lower age group or request nonresident players as outlined in the SPPPA by laws to complete the roster. This must be approved by the executive Board and Association. This method shall not cause a team from a younger age group to then not have enough players to complete a primary or secondary team. 10.Once the tryout and selection process is complete, if a player was not chosen for the higher age group the Executive Board reserves the right to allow players to be placed on a team in a lower age group in which they are eligible for if there is a spot available an no other players will be removed from the team or no more players are on the tryout list that were not chosen 11.As always the Executive board reserves the right to make exceptions to the guidelines if it is beneficial to the Association.
