GRODEN HEADS TO WEST VIRGINIA FOR NCAA REGIONALS PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 29, 2017) – Junior Libby Groden is set to represent Rutgers gymnastics at NCAA Regionals with a trip to West Virginia to compete Saturday at 4 p.m. It is her third-straight season qualifying for the meet. “I expect Libby to go in and do what she does, and that’s hit routines,” head coach Louis Levine said. “We are going there to do the best we can and whatever happens, happens. She is very consistent meet to meet and day-in and day-out. That is one of her biggest strengths.” Groden will rotate with George Washington inside the WVU Coliseum, starting with a bye in the six-rotation meet. She will first see action on uneven bars before heading to balance beam. After the second bye, the all-arounder will wrap up on floor exercise and vault in that order. The top two all-around competitors from the regional who are not from an advancing team will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in St. Louis from April 14-15. Groden is coming off a Second Team All-Big Ten season that included at least a 9.700 in 37-of-48 routines. She led the Scarlet Knights with a 9.800 on uneven bars last time out at the Big Ten Championships, while scoring a 9.750 on floor exercise and a 9.700 on both vault and balance beam. For the season, Groden compiled a 38.940 all-around regional qualifying score (RQS) to earn a spot at NCAA Regionals. She picked up a personal RQS best of 9.800 on floor exercise, but has reached as high as 9.850 on balance beam (9.780 RQS). She owns a 9.735 RQS on uneven bars and a 9.725 RQS on vault. Groden’s best all-around performance this season came March 5 at Central Michigan with a career-high 39.075. She owns eight career meets reaching the 39.000 mark. In two previous trips to NCAA Regionals, Groden scored a 39.025 with a best of 9.800 on uneven bars last season at Michigan and put together a 38.850 as a freshman, also at West Virginia. That included a season-high 9.800 on balance beam. Groden was also Rutgers’ winner of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient as a visual art major.
