JADUS OUT TO A QUICK START Leanna Jadus powered the Owls to a 3-0 opening week with triumphs over Bridgeport, Dominican and Georgian Court, posting two double-doubles in the process. She averaged 4.22 kills and 3.78 digs per set while also hitting at a .281 clip. Jadus led the Owls in kills against Dominican and had doubledoubles against Bridgeport and Georgian Court. GAGE MAKES AN IMPACT Junior transfer Alyssa Gage fit right into the Owls’ rotation during the opening weekend. She posted a team-high .452 hitting percentage in the Owls’ three wins, including a perfect 1.000 (7-for-7) mark in the opening win over Dominican, which established a new SCSU single-game record (min. 7 kills). OFF AND RUNNING The 4-0 start for the Owls is Southern’s first since the 2009 season. That squad set a program record for consecutive wins to start a campaign with 13. IT’S BEEN A WHILE Southern’s win over Bridgeport on Sunday was the Owls’ first over the Purple Knights since the 1999 season. HITTING SOME MILESTONE MARKS Several Owls either recently achieved, or are on the cusp of reaching key milestones: • Alexandria Jurgens tallied her 500th career kill in the win over Georgian Court on Sept. 3. • Alexandra Nimz enters this weekend’s action just six assists shy of hitting 2,000 for her career. • Leanna Jadus will likely move into fifth place in program history in career attempts this weekend. She enters play with 2,256, just 86 behind Jenna Tammel, who had 2,342. A GOOD WAY TO START The Owls have a pair of four-game homestands during the course of the 2017 season, including the opening four contests. The second four-game homestand will take place later in September with matches against New Haven, Concordia, New York Tech and Wilmington.
