League Commissioners, Coach Workshops and HITS Surveys

The USTA offers free workshops throughout the year to assist with coaching education both on and off the court. Coaches/volunteers should attend a training/workshop prior to the start of the league. These workshops will cover the on court tennis curriculum as well as the life skills portion. It is mandatory that at least 1 person from the organization attends a training for every 12 participants in the program. (USTA recommends a maximum player to coach ratio of 12 to 1) To ensure the success of the program, we urge all coaches/volunteers to attend training at least once every year. Training dates/times and registration can be found at www.norcalHITS.com It is required that all USTA HITS League Commissioners ensure everyone in their program completes the mandatory HITS Survey. This must be completed by all coaches, volunteers, parents and children involved in your program. Please note: The commissioner cannot fill out this survey for their program participants.

Background Screenings

All USTA HITS League Commissioners and coaches must successfully complete a USTA offered confidential background screening BEFORE he or she begins working with youth program participants. A USTA staff person will email you the online background screening information upon receipt of the contract. It takes 10 minutes to complete online. It is the league commissioner’s responsibility to identify all coaches/volunteers involved in the program to ensure they are properly background screened to help with the program. If the league commissioner does not pass the screen, the organization must have a screened commissioner/coach in place or the program may not continue.
