2017 Winter Team Tennis FAQ’s How do I form a team or find a team to be part of? Talk to friends! If you played on a high school team, recruit teammates. You can also ask your teaching pro if they can help form a team! Keep in mind, you can sign up individually and you will be placed on a team to meet new friends!
Who can coach a team? Anyone! Parents and teaching pros are encouraged to be involved. All coaches must complete a background check by going to www.usta.com/safeplay. Players ages 16 & older may also coach a team.
What is the format? Matches consist of 2 doubles and 2 singles. An 8-game pro-set with no-ad scoring will be used.
Are there team practices? Practices are up to the coach and it is their responsibility to secure courts, as well as communicate with players and their parents about practice details (dates, times, locations, etc.). Need ideas or tips for running practices, contact Jaime Vargas at
[email protected] Who provides balls? Captains will be given two new cans of tennis balls at the Captains meeting. It’s not a requirement for teams to play their matches with new balls. It is up to the teams to supply balls for practice and for matches.
How much does Team Tennis cost and what does the money go towards? Team Tennis cost is $45 for USTA members and $65 for non-USTA members. This money will go towards court costs, tennis balls, administration fee, league fee, and awards to be given out at the end of the season.
Do I have to be a USTA Member? No. However, it’s beneficial to be a USTA member. To become a member, go to www.usta.com , email
[email protected] or call 1-800-990-8782. Junior USTA Membership are $20.
How many players do you recommend per team? A minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 6.
Do all players on a team have to be registered prior to the registration deadline? YES. Late entries will NOT be accepted.
How will I know when my team plays? The USTA Missouri District will create the schedules. They will be available online at teamtennis.usta.com before the league season begins. Coaches should communicate these details with players and their parents.
Can we reschedule a match? Yes. The coach is responsible to cancel, secure new court times, and communicate the change with players and parents.
Who is in charge of recording match scores? The home team coach/captain records score. Visiting team coach/captain confirms the scores entered are correct.
Will awards be given? Yes. Sportsmanship awards will be given to one boy and one girl at the end of the season, as well as Most Improved Player and Coach of the Season. Coaches will submit to the district their nominations along with an explanation of why they are deserving of the award.
