TRYOUT APPEARANCE: Campbell University Cheerleaders are expected to present themselves in a professional and collegiate manner at all times. All candidates trying-out must wear athletic attire appropriate for cheerleading tryout: o Females: Orange, Black, Grey or White tops are required during tryouts. Game day make-up should be worn and hair should be in a ponytail or half-up/half-down with a bow. Cheer shoes are recommended for stunting purposes. Finger nails must be athletic length (short enough that you do not see the tips of the finger nails while the individual’s palms are facing them). Jewelry of any kind is prohibited. Running shoes will be needed for a portion of the tryout. o Males: Orange, Black, Grey or White tops are required during tryouts. Cheer shoes are recommended, but basketball, running, or cross training sneakers are also acceptable. Facial hair should be well-groomed and non-excessive. Jewelry of any kind is prohibited. ELIGIBILITY: All team members must be full-time students. Incoming freshmen and transfer students must provide proof of acceptance. If you are put on a waiting list, you may try-out for a position, but you may be named alternate until accepted. Current Campbell students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and be free of any academic or disciplinary probation. During the season students must be enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours for undergraduate study. If you were previously kicked-off a Campbell University team for any reason (cheer or other team) you will not be allowed to try-out.
SEASON OVERVIEW/PRACTICE SCHEDULE April: Spring Try-outs April-July: Team members are expected to maintain skills exhibited at tryouts and continue to improve skills. There will be scheduled summer practices. Schedules will be given once the team is announced. Practices will be mandatory. August: Pre-season practices begin approximately 1-2 weeks before classes meet. Early move-in arrangements will be made for team members. A possible fall try-out will be held if spots are available. September-December: Regular season practices begin. Both teams cheer home football and basketball games (this includes preseason). We will be traveling to a couple of away football games. There will be various university, community, athletic, and fundraising events during this time. December-January (Finals/Winter break): Attendance at Men’s and Women’s Basketball games, as well as, travel to post season football events are required. No mandatory practices will be held during finals week; however, practices will resume the week after. January-April: Regular season practices continue. It is possible we will be competing, but not all athletes may be eligible for competition (coaches’ discretion). Travel to post season Men and Women’s basketball games will take place in March. Exhibitions and Competitions could fall anywhere between these months. Spring Tryouts will take place in April. Tournaments do fall over spring break. Do not make plans if you will be traveling and/or preparing for competition.
TEAM DESCRIPTIONS: This year the expectation is to have an “ORANGE” team and a “BLACK” team. Both teams follow the same guidelines, require the same time commitment, and perform/practice together frequently. Alternates may be selected for one or both teams at the discretion of the Head Coach. It is possible these teams will be combined into one team. This decision will be made at tryouts by the coaching staff, with the assistance of CU Athletic Administration.
CAMPBELL CHEER TEAM BENEFITS: The following benefits will be provided to students who are in good standing with the program for the complete season (August-April):

TRAVEL: Travel rosters will be determined by the coaching staff. Skill level, commitment/attitude, stunting position, and grade point average will be taken into consideration when choosing who will travel to away and post season games. Students who are on academic probation and/or do not meet the minimum appearance requirement will not be eligible for travel.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships will be given at the beginning of each semester. The amount could vary depending on the budget, amount of members on the team and skill level. If you are removed from the team or voluntarily dismiss yourself from the team during a semester, your scholarship amount may be reduced or revoked.

I understand that I must have medical coverage which will provide coverage should I sustain an injury during this team try-out and/or weight room work-out. I also understand that Campbell University student health insurance does not provide coverage for athletic injuries and that the Campbell University Athletic Department’s medical insurance will not pay any costs associated with injuries sustained during these work-outs. I understand that I am solely responsible for any costs associated with any injury that may occur during these work-outs and neither Campbell University nor its insurers will pay for any work-out related medical expenses.

Non-Student-Athlete Athletics Liability Release& Waiver The parties to this Release are ______________________________ (Participant) and Campbell University, Incorporated (“CU”) and its trustees, its officers, faculty, employees, volunteers, students, agents, and representatives (all hereafter the "Released Parties").. WHEREAS, The Participant has chosen to voluntarily participate in CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS (hereafter "Activity"), CU has agreed to allow Participant to participate in the Activity, Participant hereby agrees that: Assumption of Risk. Participant expressly understands and agrees that participant in Athletic Activities presents risks to Participant both serious and minor, including but not limited to head or other injuries, loss of sight, broken bones, brain damage, paralysis and death. Participant is responsible for researching and evaluating the risks she/he may face and is responsible for her/his actions. Participant further recognizes, understands and agrees that the Released Parties assume no responsibility for any liability, damage or injury that may be caused by Participant’s negligence or willful acts committed prior to, during or after participation in the Activity, or for any liability, damage or injury caused by the intentional or negligent acts or omissions of any other participant in the Activity, or caused by any other person. Indemnification and Hold Harmless. Participant specifically understands that she/he is personally responsible, agrees to indemnify, defend and holds harmless the Released Parties from any action, claim, or demand that his/her heirs, or legal representatives, have or may have for any and all personal injuries he/she may suffer or sustain, regardless of cause or fault as a result of his/her voluntary decision to participate in the Activity or related activities, on or off campus including reasonable attorneys' fees and/or any other associated costs, caused by any act or omission of Participant resulting from direct or indirect participation in the Activity. Release of Claims. In consideration of being allowed to participate in the Activity, Participant, his/her heirs, executors, administrators, employers, agents, representatives, insurers, and attorneys, hereby release and discharge the Released Parties from any and all claims which may arise from any cause whatsoever, including any negligent act or omission by the Released Parties. Participant further releases and discharges the Released Parties from liability for any accident, illness, injury, loss or damage to personal property, or any other consequences arising or resulting directly or indirectly from Participant's participation in the Activity. The Participant acknowledges and agrees that the Released Parties assume no responsibility for any liability, damage, or injury that may be caused by Participant's negligent or intentional acts or omissions committed prior to, during, or after participation in the Activity, or for any liability, damage, or injury caused by the intentional or negligent acts or omissions of any other participant in the Activity, or caused by any other person. Termination of Participation. Participant understands and agrees to abide by all policies, rules, and regulations. Participant shall not engage in inappropriate conduct including the use of physical or verbal violence. Participant understands that, in its sole discretion the Activity or its representative may terminate Participant's participation in the Activity at any time. Reasons for termination may include, but are not limited to: inappropriate conduct or other behavior by Participant deemed detrimental to the best interests of the Activity; emergencies; or health or safety considerations.
Physical Condition and Insurance. Participant must affirm and present proof of coverage regarding primary insurance. Moreover, the participant must attest that she/he is physically capable of participating and has no known health restrictions that might jeopardize her/his safety or health or the safety or health of others during their participation in the Activity. Severability. It is understood and agreed that, if any provision of this release or the application thereof is held invalid, the invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of this release which can be given effect without the invalid provisions or applications. To this end, the provisions of this release are declared severable. Governing Law and Venue. This release shall be construed in accordance with, and governed by, the laws of the State of North Carolina. The venue for any action arising out of this Agreement shall be the Superior Court of Harnett County, State of North Carolina. The parties agree to submit to jurisdiction in the Superior Court of Harnett County, North Carolina. Construction and Scope of Agreement. The language of all parts of this release shall in all cases be construed as a whole, according to its fair meaning, and not strictly for or against any party. This release is the only, sole, entire, and complete agreement of the parties relating in any way to the subject matter hereof. No statements, promises, or representations have been made by any party to any other, or relied upon, and no consideration has been offered or promised, other than as may be expressly provided herein. This release supersedes any earlier written or oral understandings or agreements between the parties. A current physical must be presented on the day of tryouts. You will not be allowed to participate without the signed medical waivers and a current sports physical.
NONRECRUITED WALK-ON NCAA Bylaw: 17.1.5 Mandatory Medical Examination Prior to participation in any practice, competition or out-of-season conditioning activities (or in Division I, permissible voluntary summer conditioning in basketball or voluntary individual workouts pursuant to the safety exception), student-athletes who are beginning their initial season of eligibility shall be required to undergo a medical examination or evaluation administered or supervised by a physician (e.g., family physician, team physician). The examination or evaluation must be administered within six months prior to participation in any practice, competition or out -of-season conditioning activities. In following years, an updated history of the student-athlete’s medical condition shall be administered be an institutional medical staff member (e.g., sports medicine staff, team physician) to determine if additional examinations (e.g., physical, cardiovascular, neurological) are required. The updated history must be administered within six months prior to the student-athlete’s participation in any practice, competition or out-of-season conditioning activities for the applicable academic year. Policy: 1. No Campbell University student may participate in a tryout/clinic until he/she completes the “Non-Student-Athlete Athletics Liability Release and Waiver” form. 2. When publicizing the walk-on tryout, the coach must stipulate that those who attend will not be allowed to participate without proof of insurance. 3. Coaches must make themselves aware of information regarding what issues have to be addressed before a walk-on student is cleared for participation beyond the one-time tryout/clinic, including: a. b. c. d. e. f.
Full-time enrollment and eligibility remaining in the five-year clock Qualifier status for freshmen, if applicable Amateurism status for freshman, if applicable Transfer documentation from a previous institution, if applicable Insurance form on file with the Sports Medicine staff Physical exam form completed and on file with Sports Medicine
Note: Any student who walks on without clearance from Sports Medicine is not insured nor approved to participate. Moreover, per NCAA Bylaw 17.1.5 it is impermissible to allow any participation until such documentation has been obtained. Procedure: 1. The Head coach will inform the Compliance Office of his/her desire to hold a tryout/clinic for non-student-athletes. 2. The coach will work with the Department of Athletic Communications to post information about the tryout/clinic on the Campbell University Athletics website. 3. The posting must be approved by the compliance office before going “live” on the Campbell University athletics web site. 4. Prior to participation in Athletic Activities, non-student-athletes will obtain and fill out “NonStudent-Athlete Athletics Liability Release and Waiver” form and present it to an Athletics Trainer.
5. Following the conclusion of the tryout/clinic, the head coach will provide a list of selected walk-ons to the Compliance Office. 6. The Compliance office will hold a meeting with selected walk-ons for the completion of NCAA and Campbell University paperwork. 7. Walk-ons must satisfy all NCAA academic as well as amateurism regulations and be certified by the eligibility center prior to further participation, as necessary, dependent on the student’s circumstance. 8. When all paper work has been completed, the compliance office in coordination with the registrar’s office will determine the student’s eligibility for practice and competition. An updated certification of eligibility list (CEL) will be sent to the coach informing him/her of the decision.
