Boardman Community Baseball Chuck Schafer Memorial Scholarship Award 2017-2018 Academic Year Chuck Schafer’s love for children and passion for the game of Little League baseball has shaped Boardman Community Baseball and the Fields of Dreams to what they are today. Chuck was a long time BCB Board Member, Past President and Volunteer. He was also an experienced architect and designed the fields on McClurg Road with spectators in mind. Each year thousands of visitors to the Fields of Dreams are amazed and excited to play ball at this premier complex. Chuck Schafer believed in giving back to the community and volunteered countless hours to Boardman Community Baseball. This scholarship celebrates his love for children, community and Little League baseball and softball. Winners will be awarded scholarships at the 15th annual Chuck Schafer Memorial Scholarship Tournament at Boardman Community Baseball’s Fields of Dreams June 29 - July 1, 2018. For the 2017-2018 academic year, two $2,500 scholarships will be available to selected applicants that meet the following criteria: CRITERIA: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Senior Status Accumulative GPA of 2.75 Participated in Boardman Community Baseball for: 5 years in the baseball or softball program Complete Chuck Schafer Memorial Scholarship Application ESSAY: Not to exceed 500 words. Discuss how Little League and participating in Boardman Community Baseball have structured and affected your daily life. Essays will be evaluated on originality, presentation of ideas, good use of grammar and spelling. Applications submitted without essay will be disqualified. 6. Submit the completed APPLICATION form with high school TRANSCRIPT and ESSAY. DEADLINE: Postmarked by May 1, 2018
