THIS CREATES AN ARCHITECT URE THAT IS EARTH-BOUND, RISING UP FROM THE GROUND WITH ST RONG HORIZONTAL ‘T RAYS’ – OUTDOOR TERRACE SPACES THAT GIVE VIEWS ACROSS THE HARBOUR. THIS IS A DESIGN APPROACH THAT PERHAPS OWES A DEBT T O THE GREAT AMERICAN ARCHITECT FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT WITH HIS 1937 HOUSE ‘FALLINGWATER’ IN PENNSYLVANIA THAT MADE THE COVER OF T IME MAGAZINE THE FOLLOWING YEAR, CATAPULT ING WRIGHT T O THE CLAIM AS ‘THE GREATEST ARCHITECT OF THE 20TH CENT URY’. THE HOUSE WAS INDEED BEGUILING, WITH IT S HORIZONTAL BALCONIES PERCHED ABOVE A WATERFALL. IN RECENT YEARS POOLE HAS BECOME HOME T O NEW WAVE OF MODERNIST HOUSES – WE ADD T O THIS WITH A PALETTE OF NAT URAL MATERIALS T O MAKE BUILDINGS THAT WORK AND WEAR WELL.
