2.9.2: District Custom Items
Overview
General Guidelines
This document explains how to create, view, edit, and approve/unapprove a district custom item.
When creating district assessment items, there are general guidelines to follow. These guidelines are: • • •
Create A New District Custom Item
Each item must be a multiple choice question Reading passages can be entered to accompany a question Each question can include up to 5 answer options Step

A. Reading Passage (Optional): A passage can be added to accompany each question. This can also be used as a question purpose setting statement. B. C. Correct Answer: Insert correct answer. D. Distractor: Each question can include up to four distractors. The default setting is three distractors. • Click the Add button to access the fourth distractor box. • Click the Recycling Bin to remove distractor. Note: Both C and D can contain alphanumeric characters and images. Item Specifications can be found on page 3.

Grade Level (GR) – Grades K-8, HS are the default options. Subject: Math and Language Arts are the default subjects. If a district has added additional subjects, you can choose from those as well. Strand – Select the correct strand from the drop down menu. This list will be populated once a subject is selected. Depth of Knowledge (Cognitive Complexity)– Options are 1-5. Districts will determine the guidelines for what each option stands for. Cross Curricular (Optional) – Allows districts to connect the question to another subject. By default, Math and Language Arts are available, and additional subjects can be added by the district. Continued on next page

Action Item Tag (Optional) – You can select from a list of preset tags created by the district to help identify questions. Alignment(Optional)- You can tag an item to a preset Classworks Alignment for Math or Language Arts.

Once all components of the new item have been completed, click the Save button .
Note: To exit the screen, click the
Item Specifications
. Your changes will not be saved.
When creating new assessment items, districts have the ability to select specific item criteria and also format each item. Districts can also copy and paste text from additional sources to add into the text boxes. To ensure HTML compatibility, use the “Remove Formatting” icon if copying from an external source, such as Microsoft Word. •
Image Size- Districts have the ability to add images to any item via the upload icon. These images must be uploaded in png, gif, jpg or jpeg format and cannot be larger than 100KB. Images cannot be copy and pasted.

Font Type – The supported font types are: Normal, Times New Roman, Arial, Courier New, Georgia, Trebuchet and Verdana.

Font Size- The options for font size are: XX-Small, X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large.
•
Background- This allows you to change the background color of the text added. You can choose between: White, Black, Red, Green, Yellow and Blue.

Foreground - This allows you to change the color of the text that will be added. You can choose between: White, Black, Red, Green, Yellow and Blue.

View an Item
Once an item has been created, you have the ability to view, edit, delete, approve or reject the item. Step

Click on the Editor Tab.

Locate the item. You have the ability to sort the items by clicking on the following headers: • Item Number • Subject • Grade • DOK (Depth of Knowledge) • Created by • Approved By • Modified Date You can also filter by using the Item Filter box located on the right side of the screen.

Edit an Item
Click the item number to open the item page which allows you to view each item in-depth. • You can easily navigate to additional items by using the arrows . • By clicking on History you can see what actions have been taken for each item, who performed the action, and when the action occurred.

Click on the pencil icon to edit the item. You can add additional distractors, tag to preset alignments or change any other component of the item. Continued on next page

From the Editor Tab, place a check in the box next to the item number(s) you would like to delete.

Click the mass action drop-down in the lower right corner and select Delete.

Click Apply.
In order to make an item available to add to a district custom assessment, it must be approved by a user in the “Approver” group. To view members of this group, click on the Administration Tab > Editor Sub Tab. Step

to approve each item.

From the Editor Tab, put a check mark in the box next to each item you would like to approve.

Click the mass action drop-down in the lower right corner and select Approve.

Unapprove an Item
If an item has previously been approved, you can remove the item from the assessment bank by unapproving the item. Step
