The presentation will review interviews and surveys gathered from African American Male student-athletes enrolled in predominantly white institution. experience to focus on the holistic student-athlete development. Our program focuses on developing the 3 identities: the academic identity, the athletic identity, and the personal identity. Through a multi-modal curricula, this program is designed to help the studentathlete explore and evaluate one's personal, academic, and athletic identity to ultimately create an individualized “road map” to college and career success. 12:15pm-1:15pm - Media Room 1st Floor Legends Club Tutoring With Rigor-Webb’s Depth Of Knowledge – Media Room – 1st Floor Legends Club Dr. David Strauss, Supervisor of Special Education, West Baton Rouge Parish School Board This presentation will discuss the difference between reading written text and understanding written text. Discuss the impact of a limited vocabulary on academic performance and social interaction for student-athletes. Attendees will learn new and easily employable ways to improve vocabulary and comprehension for students. 1:15pm-2:15pm *When Student-Athletes Are No Longer Student-Athletes (1.0 General CEU) – 2nd Floor Legends Club Danny Bonaventura, Graduate Assistant, Academic Services Center for Student-Athletes, Tulane Wendy LeBlanc, Learning Specialist, Academic Services Center for Student-Athletes, Tulane This presentation will examine the challenges that non-active student-athletes face such as injuries, lack of playing time, relationships with teammates and coaches. Discuss best practices and current policies when servicing non-active student-athletes. 1:15pm-2:15pm Data-Driven Support Plans: The Academic Scouting Report –Media Room 1st Floor Legends Club Jennifer Schuelke, Learning Specialist, Academic Center for Student- Athletes, LSU The Academic Scouting Report (ASR) is a behavior modification tool which clearly defines academic expectations and visually represents student-athlete progress through color and graphs. Academic support staff and student-athletes use the same tool; student-athletes use it to track and modify behaviors; and academic support staff use the ASR to evaluate and revise support plans and clearly communicate those plans to coaches with confidence. The result allows student learning programs the ability to quickly and efficiently identify academic weaknesses and apply the appropriate interventions to remedy academic gaps. 2:15pm-3:15pm *Fostering Resilience & Academic Achievement Among College Student-Athletes Through Mental Health Services (1.0 General CEU) -2nd Floor Legends Club Dr. LaKeitha A. Poole, Assistant Director, Sport Psychology & Counseling Services Athletic Department, LSU This presentation will discuss myths concerning mental health in today’s society and identify the mental health needs of student-athletes. Dr. Poole will review counseling and mental health support services and ways to utilize campus and community resources in your area.

2:15pm-3:15pm Through The Eyes of an International Student – Media Room – 1st Floor Legends Club Shanekia Hall, Graduate Assistant, Academic Center for Student- Athletes, LSU This presentation will identify transitional issues faced by international student-athletes and highlight ways in which advisors can incorporate strategies to further support international student-athletes’ mental health.
