Family and Education Program Director Description A half-time staff position at Laguna Country United Methodist Church (LCUMC) to provide leadership for the family program and for Christian Education programming for children and youth to support the growth and strength of LCUMC and its mission of “Welcoming Everyone and Serving in God’s Love.” Qualifications and Skills • Faith in God: Display an authentic and growing faith in Jesus Christ. • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; proficient in computer
use and social media tools. • Leadership: Self-motivated and self-initiating with strong leadership and
interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to develop and lead Christian education programs for children, youth and families to carry out LCUMC’s mission. • Organization: Strong organizational and program development skills
including the ability to recruit, train, support, coordinate, and lead volunteers. • Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Compensation Annual salary of $24,000 - $28,000, depending on qualifications, and normal parttime employee benefits. This position is an “at will,” half-time (20 hours per week) position. The normal work schedule may include Saturdays, Sundays and evenings.

Major Responsibilities 1. Develop, plan and implement family ministry programs, groups, or activities. 2. Publicize LCUMC programs for children, youth and families within and beyond the LCUMC community including the use of print, newsletter, email, website, and social media. 3. Oversee, coordinate and teach in the Sunday School ministry for children through Grade 6 including recruiting and training teachers to instruct and disciple our children using a scripture-based church school program. 4. Develop, plan, implement, and sustain the youth program for grades 7–12. a. Market and publicize the youth program, including outreach to
youth in the neighboring community, to support the growth and strength of the youth program. b. Create specific activities for the inter-generational connection of
youth with the larger LCUMC congregation. 5. As directed by the Lead Pastor and the Worship Committee, prepare and provide children’s messages and opportunities for youth participation in the Sunday worship services. 6. At the direction of the Lead Pastor, offer, plan and lead an annual Confirmation Class for youth of the appropriate age. 7. Develop, plan and implement a Vacation Bible School or Summer Fun Week focused on children with intergenerational activities including the recruitment and training of volunteers. 8. Assist other staff members in development, planning, and implementation of intergenerational activities, to include retreats and special seasonal and holiday programs, and to support the growth and strength of the church. 9. Perform other responsibilities as assigned in fulfillment of the church’s vision and mission. 10.Comply with all applicable Safe Sanctuary and Lay Personnel policies and procedures of LCUMC.

Recommended Experience • Membership and active participation in a local church. • Three years successfully guiding and coordinating local church activities or
children’s learning activities as a paid staff member. • Knowledge of the organization and principles of the United Methodist
Church. • Knowledge of the needs and interests of children, youth and families, and the
ability to translate this knowledge into effective, meaningful programs. Recommended Skills • Leadership and personal relations skills that support accomplishment of the
goals for growth and nurturing within a caring community, including skills in recruiting, organizing, supporting and relating to volunteers. • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills. • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. • Knowledge of legal and ethical responsibilities when conducting children,
youth, and intergenerational meetings and activities. • Publicity skills including, but not limited to, organizing publicity campaigns,
writing news releases, working with community media and social media management skills. • Personal computer skills including email, website management, social media
familiarity, and MS Office with advanced proficiency in Word and PowerPoint. Accountability and Supervision This is a half-time staff position to focus on those activities and events that support the youth, children and families of LCUMC and the neighboring community. The quality of the activities and the growth in numbers of those who participate and lead in both religious and social events will be basic to the evaluations. This position functions under the direct supervision of the Lead Pastor in coordination with the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). Church Council guides the mission and vision of LCUMC and all functions of this position should support the growth and development of this church and its mission and vision.

This position is specifically excluded from the pastoral function of this church. The incumbent will not perform pastoral duties, nor counsel any participant, except as specifically directed by the Lead Pastor and SPRC. Evaluation SPRC shall conduct evaluations of the staff person after two (2), four (4), six (6), nine (9), and twelve (12) months and semi-annually thereafter.
