Unit 8 | GOD GAVE US THE NEED FOR FRIENDS

| Jonathan was sad when King Saul tried to kill David. God planned for the world to be filled with people. God told people to be neighbors and love one another. God did not tell just husbands and wives to love one another. Jesus said, “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” This verse means that you should love other people as much as you love yourself. Read this story about David and Jonathan. “My name is Jonathan. My father is King Saul. When my father dies, I should be king because the oldest son always takes his father’s place as king. This time God has chosen David to be king when my father dies. My father hates David. He has tried more than once to kill David. My father’s actions make me very sad. God has put a love in my heart for David. I will always do what I can to protect him. David loves God, as I do. David loves me, and I know that David will always be my friend. God will not let my father kill David because some day David will be king. He will be a good king because he is brave and he loves God.” David and Jonathan could love one another because they loved God. You can have the right kind of love for people only when you love God.
