Customer-Funded Programs Incentives and Resources for Low-Income Households

Direct Assistance for Low-Income Households CA Alternative Rate for Energy (CARE)

PG&E Energy Savings Assistance Program

• Provides 30% discount for eligible • Provides qualified customers with households home improvements at no cost • Eligibility begins at a maximum • Common improvements for houses, gross income level of $31,460 (for rentals, and mobile homes may household of 1-2) include: • PG&E partners with various o Repairing or replacing community-based organizations and appliances (e.g., old agencies to enroll customers refrigerator, furnace or water heater*) o Installing insulation, weatherproofing, energyefficient light bulbs, caulking, and low-flow showerheads

Program goals: o Decrease electricity usage with solar installation and reduce energy bills without increasing monthly expenses o Provide full and partial incentives for solar systems for low-income participants o Offer the power of solar and energy efficiency to homeowners o Decrease the expense of solar ownership with a higher incentive than the General CSI Program o Develop energy solutions that are environmentally and economically sustainable



Funding provided for upfront solar incentives that assist low-income customers – $162 million (2007 – 2021)



PG&E works closely with GRID who acts as statewide administrator for:  Outreach  Recruitment  Application processing  Workforce development  Installations

Philanthropic Initiatives Direct Support for Community Initiatives and Solar Partnerships

Direct Support of GRID • Since 2006, over $680,000 donated (direct contributions, in-kind, and matching gifts) • Opportunities to share “success story” at events, through the media, and other messaging • Supports:  PG&E Solar Fellows  Job Fairs  GRID installations (including “Solar Habitat” installations)

“Solar Habitat” Collaboration • PG&E fully funds cost of solar installation on every new Habitat home in our service territory

• Solar panels generate ~ 300 kWh/month with average $500/year savings per household • “Solar Habitat” installations  500 solar PV systems through Habitat for Humanity  GRID completed more than 4 out of 5 projects

GRID Installations • 2400 GRID installs (through March 2015) in PG&E’s territory • Over 8 MWs of solar installed for low-income households  Providing ~$60 million in energy savings of expected lifespan  Eliminating more than 180,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions
