8 Terrible Times Instagram Banned Disturbing Pictures Of Female Celebrities Celebrities It's hard to believe, but Instagram is acting like an overprotective parent now-a-days, begging you to cover up or be punished. Past couple of years have been harsh, and several women received Instagram time-outs for "inappropriate content." Social media platform and its usage guidelines policed the women and their bodies. Instagram's nudity guidelines prompted activism across the social network and beyond. Chrissy Teigen, for instance, challenged Instagram to take down her post of a topless W Magazine shot. And, surprisingly it did. Instagram is complicated when it comes to the bodies, especially those of women. Unless “Female nipples” are being used to breastfeed, or a photo shows post-mastectomy scarring, they aren't allowed. Here are some Instagrammers who were censored by the app.
1. Chelsea Handler's topless photo — and Instagram war.
Handler's shirtless picture with Russian President Vladimir Putin was taken down in October 2014. “If a man
posts a photo of his nipples, it's OK, but not a woman? Are we in 1825?”, Handler said, calling this move sexist. She famously took on Instagram’s nudity policy with a series of posts in late 2014.
Rihanna's Lui magazine cover.
Rihanna's topless photo from her shoot with French magazine Lui was banned from the site in May 2014. She left the site for 6 months although her account was not disabled.
3. Meghan Tonjes' butt selfie.
Meghan Tonjes posted a picture of her butt to Instagram with a body-positive message, in May 2014. When her post was flagged, her post was taken down soon after. Tonjes believes the picture was flagged due to its size. Instagram later sent Tonjes an apology, saying, "Our guidelines put limitations on nudity and mature content, but we recognize that we don't always get it right. In this case, we made a mistake and have since restored the content."
4. Samm Newman's photo celebrating her plus-size figure.
In July 2014, Instagram removed Samm Newman's picture. She posted that picture in her underwear to celebrate her plus-size figure.
5. Chrissy Teigen's topless W Magazine shoot
Model Chrissy Teigen uploaded an image taken at a recent W Magazine photoshoot. The picture was determined to violate Instagram’s usage guidelines, which forbid nipples on a case-by-case basis. The image was removed like this.

Australian online magazine 'Sticks and Stones' Instagram account was terminated after posting this photo of two women with pubic hair peeking out of their swimsuits.
