9u & 10u Lake Youth Baseball 2018 Information Letter
9U &10U Commissioner: Richie Schlabach Cell # 330-31606140 Email:
[email protected] The 2018 baseball season will soon be here, as we prepare for another fun filled season I'd like to pass on to Coaches, Parents, and player some general information that will allow everyone to plan for the season. What is the Draft and do I need to attend? The 2018 Lake Youth Baseball Draft is not currently scheduled but will be if necessary. If a player draft is needed it will be held at the Gentle Brook Sports Complex on 880 Sunnyside Dr. in Hartville. 9U or 10U returning players DO NOT need to attend the draft. New players will need to attend the draft and will be contacted within 24 hours of the draft to be notified of the team your child has been assigned for the season. When does practice begin? If gym time can be secured from the Lake Local Schools, each team may have some limited practice time indoors during the month of March. Your coach will contact you in mid-March and schedule your first outdoor practice. Generally, practices will begin in April. Each team typically practices 3 times per week in April. The weekday practice times are usually 5 to 6:30pm or 6:30 to 8pm, and these times will alternate. Saturday practice times are generally between 10am to 4pm. Once games begin in May, you may have 1 weekday practice.
When will games begin? I would anticipate games to begin the first week of May.
How many games will my child play in 9U & 10U? I anticipate each team playing approximately 14 games, and the season concluding at the end of June with the tournament wrapping up the weekend prior to July 4th.
What equipment will my child need? Lake Youth Baseball will provide helmets and balls. Your child will need a baseball glove. Baseball spikes are strongly suggested—they can just wear regular shoes—but we do play on a regular dirt infield. Each team should have some bats to share—but you may wish to purchase your child their own bat (no regulations) or helmet that they would use. If your child desires to catch, they must wear an athletic cup. Lake Youth Baseball will provide a catcher’s helmet, shin guards, and chest protector for team use.
Important Dates to place on your calendar: Picture Day: April 28th (Saturday) Rubber Ducks LYB night: May 10th (Thursday)
9U & 10U is a game of getting the players prepared for the next level of “kid pitch” baseball. It is a game of inclusion and not exclusion. Equal playing time is paramount. Lake Youth Baseball requires players to be rotated to different defensive positions throughout the game. Each player is required to play a minimum of 2 innings in the infield (that includes the catcher position) and 1 inning in the outfield per game. Every team must “roster bat” meaning that even when your child is not playing in the field they will still bat in their determined lineup spot. This level of baseball is completely kid pitch while they are at bat. You may request a copy of the rules from your coach or the Commissioner.
Thank you for registering your child for Lake Youth Baseball. I am confident that they will enjoy this baseball experience and hopefully continue to play baseball for many years to come.
