treat A right royal
Bex Bastable tasted how the other half lives when she sampled a bee sting facial

f you’re looking for a luxury facial, look no further than the The Spa at The Grand, Brighton, which is now offering Heaven Skincare treatments favoured by A-list celebrities and members of the royal family. The exclusive Heaven treatments, created by beautician to the stars Deborah Mitchell, are coveted by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and it’s even said that Kate Middleton had a treatment before her wedding day. The Bee Sting Facial (£95 for 60 minutes), involves a massage technique, along with bee venom products, to increase collagen in the skin, reduce sun damage, and keeps skin looking plumped and glowing. Described as the natural alternative to botox, the winning ingredient Abeetoxin is what makes the product so effective. The idea of using bee venom came to Deborah in a dream, and she then found a way to collect it that doesn’t harm bees. Visiting the Brighton salon to launch the treatments, Deborah explained how an electrical current is released into a pane of glass, encouraging the bees to sting it. But they survive, and the bee venom is then collected,
and the bees carry on their lives. The Spa at The Grand is the first on the south coast to offer Heaven treatments, including the famous Bee Sting Facial, which has been specially created to give an instant anti-ageing effect. I made my way to the Brighton hotel spa, to see what all the fuss is about. I opted for the facial with a bee peel, which is said to have an instant anti-aging effect, as well as brightening and illuminating the skin, and eradicating lines, blemishes and large pores. The therapist talked through my skincare range, and tailored the facial to my skincare needs. As someone in my late twenties with combination skin, we went for the products tailored for younger skin. Very few therapists are taught Deborah’s techniques, to ensure the facials are exclusive, and there is certainly is an art to it. Using Heaven’s personalised products, the therapist massages the face, moving the skull forward and lifting the cheekbones, to give a ‘face-lift’ effect, all the while letting the luxury products work their magic. During the 60-minute treatment the Silver Bee Venom Mask, which lifts, tightens and firms
the skin, was applied, and I got to experience the citrussy Orange Flower Hydrogel, Youthful Moisturiser and Clarifying Serum. All of the Heaven products are made with natural and organic ingredients, and smell divine. The Bee Peel, which is offered as an upgrade to the facial for £10, also contains Abeetoxin, and resurfaces the skin, leaving it fresh and glowing. The results of the facial were instant - my skin was smooth and plump, and my cheekbones had lifted. My forehead was smooth, and my usual laughter/frown lines had melted away. I was impressed with how different my skin and bone structure looked at the end of the treatment, and the results lasted for well over a week. The Spa at The Grand also offers the Bee Slim Body treatment (£100 for 60 minutes), which is a body detox said to banish cellulite, aid slimming, and make skin firmer. The Angel Face Lift (£90 for 50 minutes) is a hydrating face lift using lymphatic drainage and Heaven’s massage to achieve a younger looking complexion. Leah Van der Kieft at The Grand Brighton says: “We are delighted to offer such an amazing range of skincare products and new treatments at The Spa at The Grand. “We are impressed by Heaven’s use of natural, organic and ethically sourced ingredients which suit our own ethos and approach. We know the innovative treatments will be a great addition to our spa and so far our clients who have experienced Heaven have been amazed by the results.” Deborah Mitchell, founder of Heaven Skincare says: “I am so pleased to be working with The Grand Brighton.
