AAU Select Atlanta Highlight Report The AAU Select Basketball Camp Summer Tour got off to a great start in Atlanta, GA at Emory University. Every player who attended the camp came in ready to work, and work they did! Gabe Blair from Pure Results Training put the players through rigorous drills to improve their overall skill set. Along with combining strength & conditioning with those drills, every player in attendance should have a new found understand of what the phrase “Hard Work” really means. Each day, after the skill development was over, it was time to transition what was taught into game play. Once it was game time, there were several players who stood out among the rest. In the Middle School division, rising 7th grader Anthony Grant, Jr. (6’0, F from Bonaire, GA 2022) used his length and athleticism to affect the game on both ends of the floor. Anthony used has the skill set to rebound the ball, start the fast break and finish the play with either a shot or making the right pass. Another player who showed he has a bright future is Anthony Bowen (5’4 PG from Hinesville, GA 2021). Anthony Bowen is a quick guard who can shoot the 3, as well as beat you off the dribble and finish at the basket. One of the most impressive things about Anthony was the way he encouraged and communicated with his teammates. In the camp environment, you don’t see that much. Erik Brown (5’4 SG from Savannah, GA 2021) showed his ability to score the ball from all three levels (3’s, mid-range and in the paint). Erik is able to score the ball with both hands around the basket, which allowed him to score at a higher rate. In the High School division, one of the hardest working players at camp in both the drills and games was Justin Deak (5’7 CG from Sandy Springs, GA 2020). Justin worked extremely hard in the skill development session and that hard work carried over to the games. His energy and effort gave him an advantage on both ends of the floor. Justin did a great job of making the right play, either making the right and completing it or scoring the ball. Jamal Hinkle (6’4 G/F from Waynesboro, GA 2017) brought that same work ethic as Justin this weekend. Jamal’s athleticism stood out from everyone else at camp. He has the ability to rebound the ball, push it the length of the floor and dunk the ball in traffic. Jamal can also knock down the mid-range jumper, which makes him even more of a threat. Thomas O’Neil (6’10 C from Richmond Hill, GA 2018) showed the ability to score the ball with both hands around the basket, as well as put himself in the right position to rebound the ball effectively on both ends of the floor. Here are some other players who stood out in Atlanta: Jamell Coast, Jr 5’6 Savannah, GA 2022 Strong with the ball, plays through contact, finishes JeKobe Coleman 5’10 McDonough, GA 2020 Shoots the 3, sees the floor well
