Setting: Athens, Greece Characters: The Royals Theseus-the Duke of Athens Hippolyta-the Queen of the Amazons. She is engaged to Theseus. Egeus-he is Hermia’s father. He has approved of Demetrius. Hermia-he is in love with Lysander, but required to marry Demetrius. Demetrius-he loves Hermia and is preferred by her father, Egeus. Lysndander-he loves Hermia and Hermia loves him. Egeus does not approve of him. Helena-she is Hermia’s best friend. She loves Demetrius. Demetrius does not love her. Philosrate-he is a servant of the Duke. He carries out the Duke’s wishes. (Think of him as a Royal party planner.)
