ADF Newsletter Volume 22 Issue 2

February 201716

President’s Message The winter meeting of ADF was held on January 28 at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, Mississippi, with a total of 30 in attendance. Dan Watson presented an update on the Baptist Rural Life Ministries projects in Honduras, Guatemala and Haiti where more than 450 farmers are now using the SALT technology. Three project requests for a total of $22,500 were approved for funding: (1) Agricultural Work in the Kokabrak Baptist Association in Bangladesh, (2) Baptist Rural Life Ministries Partnership, and (3) Water Filters for Golden Harvest Project in Myanmar. The main speaker for the meeting was Mark Evans, Missions Pastor at Broadmoor Baptist Church. The following officers were elected for 2017: President – Randy Graves Vice-President – Jim Watson Project Coordinator – Harold Watson Secretary – Richard Parish Executive Committee Member – Terry Kirkpatrick Hopefully, in reading this, you noticed a name missing from the list--Mrs. Joyce Watson. Mrs. Joyce has served faithfully as treasurer of ADF since 1998 and is passing the baton to Carl Prewitt. Carl has previously served as Treasurer of ADF and has again assumed the bookkeeping and all related banking and financial responsibilities. Mrs. Joyce will be working with Carl during an interim period to assist with the transition and will continue to prepare the program books and mailings.

Pursuant to this change, any donations, membership contributions or other financial concerns should be directed to Carl at: Agricultural Development Foundation 7541 Siwell Road Byram, MS 39272

The ADF office contact information will remain: Agricultural Development Foundation 1153 Owens Road Terry, MS 39170 [email protected] or [email protected] Tel. 601-857-8544 In addition to the change in Treasurer, Terry Kirkpatrick has been added as a member of the Executive Committee. As immediate past president, he helped to start a number of initiatives. By being a part of the Executive Committee, he can work more readily with the ADF leadership to keep these initiatives moving forward. At the summer meeting, we also heard plans from Don Blasingame for the Publicity Team. Don will be joined by David May and James Henley with regard to producing the ADF Newsletter, sending out weekly emails, and expanding publicity throughout the state. In this regard, you can assist this team by providing information and pictures relative to agricultural projects. Or, perhaps, you are aware of a publicity outlet in your area that you can share with them. If so, please contact Don at [email protected]. Thanks to all of you for the service you provide because of what He has done for us. Randy Graves, President

From the Back 40

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

If you ask most folks what agricultural missions is about, most would respond that it is providing hungry people with a few pounds of garden seed, a pig, or a few chickens. In fact, we do some of those things. However, agricultural missions is much more than that. It is first of all a training program where local church leaders are given in-depth training in agriculture, specific for their location. These leaders will later become trainers and evangelists in their villages and surrounding area. The leader training is “hands on” at a nearby demonstration site where they learn to use simple agricultural practices that could double or triple their production. This ministry is also evangelistic in nature. When these local trainers move out into their community they normally have an open door to share not only their agricultural skills but their faith as well. I have witnessed many times in many parts of the world that agriculture can open doors that are closed to missionaries, and sometimes even the local Christian church. It is a holistic ministry that ministers to both the body and soul. It is my prayer that you will join us in 2017 in sharing our skills and sharing our faith in a hungry, dark and lost world. —Don Blasingame, Editor
