PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The ADF summer meeting was held on August 5 at First Baptist Church, Byram, MS. Thanks to Rev. Carl Prewitt and the church for hosting this meeting. The Board of Directors has accepted an invitation to meet in conjunction with the Louisiana Fellowship for the winter meeting. This will be January 27, 2018, in West Monroe, LA. Please put this on your calendar. There were only two project proposals presented at this meeting, which is fewer than normal. However, David Morrison, President of the Louisiana Baptist Agricultural Missions, reported that their group has ended support of work in Mexico since agricultural projects are well established and local coordinators are in place to ensure on-going success. This is a praise report where a project has reached its maturity and support can be directed to new opportunities. Along that line, our keynote speaker, Dr. Stan Buckley with But God Ministries, shared about a project they have in Jonestown, MS, where agriculture work is on the horizon. In addition, the Mississippi Agriculture Fellowship approved support of a project in Byram, MS, to assist with gardening at Buried Treasures Home. Work will begin this month preparing for fall and spring planting.
While we need to continue our support of international agriculture work as in the past, it appears that we have opportunities even closer to home. Please be aware of these opportunities as we move forward. Randy Graves President
From the Back 40 Meeting Report: Why We Do This Old friends greet and new friends are made. But this is much more than a social gathering. News of the hungry being fed and the lost being found reinforces the bond within the kingdom. Opportunities to cooperate in sending and going are shared. Decisions are made regarding the future work of the organization. Such summarizes the ADF meeting at Byram First Baptist Church on August 5. As the saying goes, “You should have been there.” Funds were approved to continue support of an agricultural project in Asia that is the mainstay of evangelism in a dangerous region. Believers are persecuted, but under God’s economy more find new birth. Continued on Page 2

Funds were also approved for an extension worker who will train locals in Central America for self-sustenance agriculture so they can feed their families. He will also share the gospel of Christ through Bible storying. Another project under consideration for many months was not funded. A survey team did not find it to be viable. Regrettably, we do not have a way to meet this need at this time. Agricultural assistance is requested for a mission trip to Zimbabwe being organized by First Baptist Church, Starkville. Training and hands-on demonstration are needed for a Farming God’s Way project. Contact
[email protected] if interested. The Mississippi Agricultural Mission Fellowship met in conjunction with the ADF meeting. President Larry Manuel called the meeting to order after lunch and opened
with prayer. Alan Stringer reported on a recent mission project to Central America. He joined with a medical/dental group from Central Mississippi who worked with a children’s home. Alan worked in the surrounding villages treating over 700 cows, 75 horses, and a few dogs. 97 professions of faith were reported. The Fellowship also discussed developing projects to support the Mississippi Baptist Children’s Homes. ADF hopes to network with like-minded groups, churches, and individuals who have on-going mission projects that could benefit from an agricultural component. As you go, be alert for opportunities to help people feed themselves. It is a gift that keeps on giving. Don Blasingame Editor
