Individuals can resist injustice, but only in community can we do justice. -Jim Corbett, “Sanctuary as a Quaker Testimony”

How Advocacy Teams Work TAKE THE LEAP: A group decides they are ready to invest in building a deep relationship with their members of Congress.

FIND YOUR TEAMMATES: At least four people organize an

advocacy workshop that brings together dozens of Quakers and non-Quakers from their community. FCNL’s National Field Organizer, Maiya Zwerling, leads a three-hour workshop that identifies the core of a potential local Advocacy Team. You and FCNL decide whether to move forward.

BUILD YOUR SKILLS: New teams take part in a one-time

training series for advocacy. After that, Advocacy Teams come together in person once a month to hear from experts, celebrate, and learn from other teams. In these meetings, we take action.

FCNL’s lobbying based in long-term relationship building and staying engaged — of just being myself — [taught me] that the power of my voice comes from being most authentically who I am.

STAY IN TOUCH: One or more delegates from each team join a biweekly call for training, collaboration, and sharing.

MAKE REAL CHANGE: FCNL Advocacy Teams lobby on a regular basis. In just two months in 2015, FCNL Advocacy Teams organized 80 lobby visits and published 30 letters to the editor. You can join their advocacy.
