Airbnb Open Homes Application for Relocation Vouchers
BACKGROUND Service Year Alliance is building a powerful, national movement to make a service year a common expectation and opportunity for every young American. Today, there are 65,000 young people doing a service year annually. Service Year Alliance is working over the next four years to increase that number to 100,000 service years every year, on our way to 1 million young people doing a service year within a generation. Airbnb is a trusted community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world. With a global organizational commitment to help people “belong anywhere”, Airbnb—like Service Year Alliance—understands the crucial role community plays in building a stronger, prosperous future. Through a philanthropic program called Open Homes, Airbnb works to create transformative experiences for people and groups from vulnerable communities. Uniquely positioned to provide welcoming accommodations around the globe, Airbnb is teaming up with nonprofit organizations – like Service Year Alliance – to identify people in need of temporary housing such as service year corps members dedicating a year of service to strengthen America’s cities and communities. A service year, by definition, is an act of trust- and community-building. Not only do service year corps members grow to belong in their new cities, but, through service, their work helps those they serve—lowincome families, disconnected youth, returning veterans, etc—belong as well. Moving to a new city and living on a modest stipend, however, can often feel overwhelming. Airbnb wants to help by welcoming service year corps members to their new cities. This partnership with Service Year Alliance aims to do that.
THE OPPORTUNITY In our second year of a partnership, Airbnb Open Homes and Service Year Alliance are working together to support and engage emerging adults as they begin a service year. We are offering 150 Airbnb vouchers, valued at $750 each, to provide TEMPORARY HOUSING to service year corps members while they relocate to begin their service years. We will focus these vouchers to help service year corps members relocating to serve in focus cities of Austin, TX, Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles,CA. Preference will be given for service year corps members relocating before Sep 1, 2016 and those enrolled in full-time positions.

Fine Print ■■ One voucher per service year corps member. ■■ Vouchers are only redeemable on Airbnb.com. ■■ Vouchers are good for one booking on Airbnb.com, up to $750. Airbnb hosts set their own nightly rates and fees.
Bookings can also include taxes. ■■
If a service year member wants to make a booking that totals OVER $750, the difference is the responsibility of the service year member.

If a service year member wants to make a booking that totals UNDER $750, we assume they have met their relocation needs and they will not have access to the remaining funds.
■■ Airbnb is donating TEMPORARY HOUSING to assist service year corps members in relocation. We expect that service
year corps members are using this time to look for permanent housing during their Airbnb stay. Extensions of vouchers will not be supported by this program.
■■ This program exclusively covers lodging costs through Airbnb.com (e.g. Airbnb rental cost, service fees, etc). All other
expenses associated with relocation are not covered by this program.
■■ Service year corps members are responsible for identifying the listing of their choice and booking on Airbnb.com
independently. While we hope service year corps members can find Airbnb listings that accommodate their preference, options are subject to availability.
How it Works ■■ Eligible organizations are encouraged to apply for vouchers. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, May 25, 2016
at 11:59pm EST. While we want to support all service year corps members relocating to start their service years, we have a limited number of vouchers to disburse this year. The application will allow us to learn a little bit about your organization’s needs and how best to partner. We estimate the application to take between 10-15 minutes to complete.
■■ Selected organizations will be notified between 5/31/16 – 6/3/16. ■■ Service Year Alliance staff will work with selected organizations during the “ramp up period” from 6/3/16 – 6/15/16.
This includes getting you ready on the SYx to publicize your listing with Airbnb relocation support and walking you through the process to enroll service year corps members.
■■ Beginning 6/15/16, organizations can begin to enroll their service year corps members into their Airbnb supported
positions on the SYx.
■■ Upon enrollment, service year corps members will receive an email that will provide: ■■

Instructions on how to set up an Airbnb profile, how to search for listings, how to make a reservation, and how to use the voucher code

Contact information if there are questions or challenges
■■ Service year corps members create their profiles on Airbnb.com. ■■ Service year corps members find listings in their respective cities and go through Airbnb’s process to book. ■■ Airbnb hosts approve reservations. ■■ Service year corps members move, meet Airbnb host(s), unpack bags, look for permanent housing, and being their
