ALLOWED CAMPS AND CLINICS • Work a camp or clinic and be paid at the going rate as everyone else performing the same job. • Be provided transportation to and or from camp/clinic ONLY if everyone else is receiving the same treatment. • Host a camp or clinic ONLY if the student-athlete has exhausted his or her eligibility. • May provide private lessons. All current student-athletes planning on working a camp or clinic must complete the Student-Athlete for Camps or Clinics Approval Form and turn it into the Compliance Office. OUTSIDE COMPETITION • Participate as an individual in outside competition during the academic year, while representing ONLY YOURSELF and receiving no expenses or compensation from a team, club, or group. • Play in High School Alumni games, Olympic games, Official Pan American Tryouts and competition, U.S. Nation Teams or for a student-athlete representing another nation, the equivalent organization of that nation, Official World Championships, and in officially recognized state multisport events (e.g., Prairie State Games, Show-Me Games of Missouri). • In Basketball, there are no restrictions on the participation of student-athletes in outside competition during the summer. All student-athletes who wish to compete in outside competition as an unattached athlete for any sport at any time during the year, must complete the Permission for Outside-Unattached Competition Form and turn it into the the Compliance Office. PROMOTIONS • Involvement in a promotional activity (e.g., half-court basketball shooting contest, involvement in a golfing money scramble) provided all members of the general public or student-body are eligible to participate and selected at random. • Participation in a fund-raising activity for a charitiable organization, but permission to participate in those activities must be obtained from the Compliance Office to ensure that no violation occurs. The Institutional and Noninstitutional Promotions Activities Form must be completed prior to the activity by the person organizing your participation. • Approved charitable appearances must occur without missing any classes.

NOT ALLOWED CAMPS AND CLINICS • Work a camp or clinic and be paid at a higher pay rate than anyone else performing the same job. • Be paid at a higher rate based on athletic ability or reputation. • Sell goods or services to make personal money. • Host a camp or clinic to make personal money if he or she has remaining eligibility. • Receive compensation for just his or her appearance at a camp or clinic. • Receive compensation for just demonstrating or lecturing at a camp or clinic. OUTSIDE COMPETITION • Participate as an individual in outside competition during the academic year, while representing a team, club, or receiving expenses or compensation from a team, club, or group outside McKendree University. • Participate as a member of an outside team in any non-collegiate, amateur competition during the sport season. The penalty for this violation is loss of eligibility for the remainder of the year. In basketball, the penalty for this violation is loss of eligibility for any further intercollegiate competition. • Receive a cash prize for an outside competition and any award received should conform to the regulations of the recognized amateur organization associated with the event. • Compete as a member of a squad in any college all-star contest if you have remaining eligibility in that sport. The penalty for this violation is a loss of any remaining intercollegiate eligibility in that sport. PROMOTIONS • Allow your name, picture or personal appearance to be used to advertise or promote any commercial products, services, jobs, or employers because of your athletic reputation regardless of whether compensation is offered. • Allow a commercial business to use your name or picture in a “name-the-player” contest. • Make charitable appearance while missing class.

EXTRA BENEFITS OR SERVICES • May receive free or reduced merchandise from a merchant that is available to the general public or student-body.

BOOSTERS and REPRESENTATIVE OF ATHLETICS INTEREST As a student-athlete, you need to be aware that there are limitations on the interactions you may have with individuals the NCAA identifies as boosters. The NCAA stipulates that once an individual has been identified as a “representative of athletics interest” of McKendree University’s athletics programs he or she retains this status forever. You, friends or relatives may not receive an “extra benefit” from any individual that is being given directly or indirectly due to the fact that you are a student-athlete at McKendree University.

ALLOWED • • •

May be paid at a job for work actually performed. May be paid for a job at a rate commensurate with the going rate in the locality for similar services. Best rule of thumb is “Ask before you accept anything.”

AMATEURISM • A professional athlete in one sport may represent an institution in a different sport. • May participate as a member of an amateur team against a professional team. • May participate as a member of a professional team provided the professional is not being paid by a professional team or league to play as a member of that team.

NOT ALLOWED EXTRA BENEFITS OR SERVICES • A car or any use of a car or other transportation. • Clothing. • Haircut or other miscellaneous services at a reduced/free price. • Gift(s). • Money, loan(s), a guarantee of bond or signing/co-signing of a note to arrange a loan. • Ticket(s) for any kind of entertainment. • Payment of long distance telephone calls. • Free or reduced merchandise from a merchant not available to the general public or student-body. • Free or reduced meals at a restaurant. • Free or reduced room and/or board from a booster. • Members of the athletic department staff (including tutors) completing reports, papers, letters, etc., for you. • Special discounts, payment arrangements or credit on a purchase (e.g., airline tickets) or service (e.g., laundry, dry cleaning). • Be paid at a job for work not performed. • Be paid at a job for a different rate than the going rate of pay. AGENTS • Accept money, transportation or other benefits from an agent or agreed to have an agent market your athletics ability or reputation in that sport. • Sign a contract with an agent or agree verbally to be represented by an agent until after your eligibility has been exhausted. If you are approached by anyone that represents him or herself as an agent, please contact the Compliance Office in the Athletics Department immediately. AMATEURISM • Be paid and compete on a professional athletic team. • Receive any type of pay for play, either directly or indirectly. • Receive an award or cash prize prohibited by the NCAA and give it in your name to another individual or agency. • Use his or her athletics skill (directly or indirectly) for pay in any form in that sport. • Accept promise of pay even if such pay is to be received following completion of intercollegiate athletics participation. • Sign a contract or commitment of any kind to play professional athletics. • Receive a salary, reimbursement of expenses or any other form of financial assistance from a professional sports organization based on athletics skill or participation except those permitted by the NCAA.
