American Promise American Promise is an intimate account, recorded over 13 years, of the experience of two middle class African American boys who enrolled in the prestigious Dalton School on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The Dalton School had made a commitment to recruit students of color, and five year-old best friends Idris Brewster and Oluwaseun (Seun) Summers of Brooklyn were two of the gifted children who were admitted.

The film raises questions about how cultural identities can be maintained in a demanding school environment that provided new opportunities and challenges.
A panel discussion with Hudson Valley faculty members will immediately follow the film. The event is sponsored by the Teacher Preparation Department, Hudson Valley Community College and WMHT TV.
