MUNICIPALITY OF ANCHORAGE Anchorage Police Department Citizen Police Academy September 2, 2015 – December 2, 2015 The Anchorage Police Department is hosting its annual Citizens Police Academy. The program is designed to promote and enhance citizen understanding and awareness of the role of the Anchorage Police Department within our community. The objective of the course is not to prepare graduates to become police officers, but instead to instill in citizens a greater general knowledge of the many functions of the Anchorage Police Department. An application is required for the Academy, and it is open to any citizen who meets the following established criteria. Participants must: a) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age b) Pass a background investigation check c) Reside or work within the APD patrol boundary (Knik River Bridge to the north – McHugh Creek to the south) Deadline: Applications MUST be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2015. Academy Dates: Every Wednesday beginning September 2, 2015 through Wednesday, December 2, 2015. Classes will generally be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, unless otherwise notified. There is one Saturday session scheduled for October 3, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. held at APD Headquarters. Graduation is scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. with the location TBD. Participation requires a commitment of one evening a week (Wednesdays) and one Saturday afternoon (October 3) for a thirteen (13) week period. Graduation (scheduled for Dec. 4) is not included, and will be in addition to the 13 week schedule. Participants will meet on Wednesday evenings for three (3) hours, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The one Saturday afternoon session from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM is scheduled for October 3, 2015. In addition, at the participant’s convenience, ride-alongs with a patrol officer and/or observation time in the Dispatch Center may be scheduled. Classes will be held at the Anchorage Police Training Center, located at 3760 W. Dimond Blvd. (corner of Jewel Lake & Dimond) unless otherwise instructed. 1
