Ann Keil Reporter, WSVN-TV
Having lived all over the U.S., Emmy-winning reporter Ann Keil often didn’t know a soul when she moved to a new city. “I turned colleagues into friends, and together we changed communities—and they changed me,” she says. Before moving back to her hometown of Miami, Keil was a special projects reporter at WOFL-TV in Orlando, where she reported on societal concerns such as immigration, hate groups and sex offenders. Keil joined WSVN in 2015, and has since worked to make a difference in the place she grew up. Seeing firsthand the struggles of individuals in need, Keil focuses her charitable involvement on United Way of Miami-Dade, working as member of the executive committee that governs programming and content.

What matters most is how well you walk through the fire.

Tell us about your quotation: We live in a world where we experience love and pain, success and failure, good and bad. As a result, we get bumps and bruises along the way. How do we get back up? What lessons have we learned? How we answer these questions and act defines us. We need to use negative energy as the fuel that wakes us up the next morning. It is the fuel that tells you, “I’m going to try again, work through it, push harder and grow.” Describe your personal style: Simple, feminine and classy. I enjoy the entire color palette. Woman you admire: I owe everything to my mother. I am who I am because of her. She is grace. She is honor. She has a heart of gold. Favorite fashion designer: Nanette Lepore for fun and BCBG for work. Must-have beauty products: MAC concealer and foundation; L’Oréal waterproof black liquid eyeliner, Kerastase hair conditioner and Aura Cacia lavender body oil. Favorite gym: Flywheel. Favorite spa: The Standard Spa, Miami Beach. Favorite restaurant: Pubbelly Sushi on South Beach and Salvatore D. Finest Italian Cuisine in Kendall, where I grew up.
CHARITY CLOSE TO YOUR HEART:
Six out of 10 working Miami-Dade residents are struggling to pay for basic necessities like food, housing, health care and transportation. Almost every day, I meet people in need of answers and resources. As a member of the same community, we must act to figure out what works. I joined the United Way of Miami-Dade, and was honored to become a member of the executive committee that governs programming and content. Throughout the year, we organize fundraisers and give back financially, as well as participate in a long list of on-site projects with partner organizations. Together, we are truly building a stronger Miami. unitedwaymiami.org
Advice you would give to women aspiring to professional and personal success: Figure out what moves you. Make a list. What are you naturally good at and what brings you joy? Then, make a second list. Write down what terrifies you—your fears, insecurities and past experiences. Those feelings are not bad. They will get you to the next level.
