In Texas, property values seem to increase every year. But this also leads to an automatic increase in my property taxesl Local elected officials hide behind increasing property values to justify big budgets and wasteful spending. They even claim to “cut the tax rate” while still taking more of our money without being honest or transparent on why more tax revenue is needed. This “Hidden Property Tax” should be addressed in the 2017 Texas legislative session. Please consider all bills to eliminate the “hidden property tax” and ensure more transparency and honesty at the local level when local tax rates are adopted.

ANOTHER INCREASE ANOTHER INCREASE
IN MY PROPERTY TAXES!
STOP the Hidden Property Tax! Property appraisals seem to increase every year like clock-work. That’s good for building personal wealth, or when we sell our home, but in Texas rising property appraisals also mean higher property taxes!
The Texas Legislature convenes in January. This is our chance to educate legislators about the Hidden Property Tax and how unfair it is property owners in Texas. Higher property values should not be an automatic tax increase for property owners.
You know the game. Property values go up, but property tax rates stay more or less the same so homeowners end up paying more in property taxes. Local governments get more of your hard earned money, even though they say they are not raising taxes.
The post card below is your chance to tell your legislator how you feel about the Hidden Property Tax. Ask them to find a solution to ensure transparency and honesty at the local level regarding property tax rates and overall property tax bills.
We call this the Hidden Property Tax. We need to act now to ensure local elected officials no longer hide behind increasing property appraisals to increase their local budgets on the back of hard-working Texas and homeowners. The problem with our current property tax system is not increasing property values. The problem is tax rates not being lowered enough to offset higher property values.
