Apprentice Kitchen & Bathroom Fitter What’s it like?

Where will I train?

As a Bathroom & Kitchen Fitting Apprentice you’ll be assisting and working with qualified trade’s people while training as an Apprentice. Fitting bathrooms and kitchens in different formats will be varied work as jobs will differ in exact specification.

You will attend the Greater Manchester SkillCentre or one of our local partner colleges one day a week where your Diploma and Key Skills will be delivered. The location of your training will be dependant on where you live.

When working in this trade the duties and responsibilities you will be expected to carry out include carrying materials, cleaning up the work area, measuring out work areas in line with layout and design plans, ripping out and disposing of old units and suites as well as tiling walls and laying flooring. You will be doing hands on manual work and be expected to work professionally at all times as you will be working to tight deadlines whether it is on small domestic jobs or a large commercial project.

Where can I start? With Skills Solutions, you can step in at the level that’s right for you. We offer training in this framework at Foundation NVQ Level 1, at this level you will develop a basic understanding of General Construction. You can start with us at Kitchen and Bathroom Fitting NVQ Level 2 and develop your skills and knowledge.

What qualifications will I get? Apprenticeship • NVQ Level 2 in Fitted Interiors • Diploma Level 2 in Fitted Interiors • Functional Skills English and Maths Level 1.

What will I earn? As a Kitchen & Bathroom Fitting Apprentice you can expect to be paid the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage, however some employers do pay more. Experienced Kitchen & Bathroom Fitter can earn £17,000 to £23,000 a year, and if you are self employed you will be able to negotiate your own pay rate.

Where to next? Within Kitchen and Bathroom Fitting there are a number of different progression routes and it’s not all about working on site. Once qualified you can work as a Bathroom and Kitchen Fitter and also progress on to wood occupations such as Carpentry and Joinery. You could also work with building companies, design agencies or kitchen and bathroom manufacturers and retailers. Kitchen & Bathroom fitters can broaden their qualifications with further training in areas such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) or move into planning and installation design. You may also want to apply for our Management Apprenticeships or progress on to Higher Education, where you could develop your skills and become a Business Development Manager, Project Manager or lead a team of designers and installers.

Who will help me to succeed? You will have a personal Tutor who will support you throughout your qualification at Skills Solutions. You will be assigned an Assessor who will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress and develop your learning programme. At our training centres you will be taught by one of our industry experienced trainers who will help you every step of the way. Our Learning Support Team are on hand to offer advice and individual support should you need it.

Entry Requirements Apprenticeship • Keen and determined to work in the construction industry. • No formal GCSEs required • Successfully pass the CITB trade assessment • Recruitment interview

Additional Information Skills Solutions also offers Further Education courses at the Greater Manchester SkillCentre in Trafford Park where you could undertake a Level 2 Kitchen and Bathroom Fitting Diploma. If you would prefer a period of intensive training before entering this workplace, then this course may be for you. You may receive a training allowance whilst attending the SkillCentre.
