TRANSFORMING LIVES

Finding a Place at the BIG TABLE! At gatherings of my family, there was always the big table for adults and a smaller kids’ table. You wanted to eventually make it to the big table and wondered, with its limited seating, if you'd ever get the chance. Worship at PCFUMC isn't that way. There is always room at the table. (Now, we do offer Children's Church in the Garner Room during the 10:30 worship time for kids aged 3K - 3rd grade. This time is designed for the ways their minds are learning at those younger ages.) Here are some tips on helping kids (of all ages) worship... at the big table.

Bring a Bible. Even if the reading is on the screen in Wide Open, it is helpful to read along and see the bigger context of the passage. This is helpful for early readers also to follow along while Scripture is read.

It's ok to Smile. Kids smile all the time ...at each other...at things that are funny, and sometimes funny things happen in worship. We all need to smile more.

Sing (even if you're not in the Choir or Praise Team) Ever wake yourself up snoring? Sometimes we sing like that. We hear ourselves, and then stop. Sing anyway, it is a joyful noise to the Lord.

Invite someone, and sit with them. I've read studies that the most common reason someone didn't go to church is that no one invited them. Invite people often to worship with you and offer to meet them at the door.

Worship is a way God's grace tends the soil of our souls. No matter our age or station, race or gender, everyone’s soul needs tending. Find your place at the Big Table of Worship at PCFUMC. —Peace of Christ, Byron

Sunday March 26th is the Sunday set aside by the United Methodist Church around the globe to raise funds in support of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). These funds help UMCOR act as the arms and legs of Christ’s church so that we can assist those impacted by crisis or chronic need. UMCOR responded to human suffering: When tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma; When children in Zimbabwe lost parents to AIDS; When a massive tsunami devastated lives in Japan; And when the next mass crisis occurs, we will be prepared to respond. It is your generous giving through One Great Hour of Sharing that allows us to respond when disaster strikes. Please make your contribution on March 26th to enable the United Methodist Church to offer aid in Jesus’ name to those who suffer.

Thank you to everyone who has been so generous in supporting our mission efforts in Belarus! Please be in prayer for us as we travel, and especially when we pass through Belarusian customs early on March 31st. Also be in prayer for the children in the orphanage, the teachers and staff of the orphanage, our translators, and our host families. Finally, please remember in prayer our partner churches, Reconciliation Church in Bobruisk, Bobruisk Baptist, and Lida UMC. We return April 10. —Eric & Judy Hicks

I just want to take a few moments to say thank you to the church family here at Pell City First UMC. Until now I have to admit I didn’t know why it took so long for thank you notes to appear in a newsletter or a bulletin at a church. It has never bothered me but I have wondered about it. I now know it is because of the difficulty of such a seemingly simple task in the midst of grief. I have seen how hard it is to function when trying to do even the most basic things and I am now experiencing this first hand. Writing a thank you note is another reminder that my mom is no longer here with me. So first, I want to say thank you to all who have ever had the courage to sit down and write a thank you note to anyone after the death of a loved one. I want to say thank you for all of the phone calls, the texts, the beautiful and thoughtful cards of sympathy. Thank you for bringing food when I was so lost in grief I could not remember I was even hungry. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers and hugs which have given and continue to give me strength during this time. Thank you for coming to the visitation, it was such a long way to come to be the presence and light of Christ when I was wandering in darkness. Thank you for sharing your own stories of loss of parents and other family or friends and how you have traveled the journey and continue to do so. Thank you most of all for reminding me of the hope and certainty that as a child of God I am not alone. —Pastor Angela
