How to win arguments...and keep your friends.
AUCTION
We can’t always get exactly what we want. But when there is a disagreement we can search for a win-win solution that builds trust and respect on both sides of the relationship. Mutually acceptable solutions almost always exist but it’s often difficult to see them during highly charged emotional situations. Let’s take a look at some steps to seek that keenly sought after middle ground. Pick Your Battles First things first. Don’t let petty things like what shade of off-white to paint the living room escalate to the point of one person moving out! It’s just not worth it. But it is important to address issues if you become bitter or resentful towards the other person. Use Your Voice “Who left the toilet seat up, again!?” About 10% of conflict is due to difference in opinion and 90% is due to delivery and tone of voice. Don’t just think about what you’re saying, but how you’re saying it too. And as tempting as it may be, never post arguments on social media! Use your voice wisely to set the scene for the start of a win-win scenario. Listen Up Use your ears, not just your mouth! Actively listen to find what the other
Better Be In Quick to Snap This Up! person needs—this may mean holding your tongue when you want to jump in with a convincing rebuttal. A good trick, when things get really heated, is to get out the salt shaker. The person holding it talks until they’ve finished, then passes it to the next person who takes their turn. The more information you can gather, the easier it becomes to find a mutually beneficial solution. Explore Your Options After you’ve picked your battle wisely, voiced your opinions calmly and listened intently you’re well on your way to moving forward with an enhanced relationship; it’s now time to generate creative solutions. Compare the options together in terms of benefits for each side and agree on the best one. And always remember: the purpose of an argument should never be victory but rather, progress!

We have access to median sale prices New Zealand wide so even if you’re moving out of town altogether, we can give you an idea of what you can expect to pay for a home anywhere in the country. We can also put you in touch with someone who knows your destination well and can work with you to find your continued…
