********************************************************************* Jamie’s Journal Friendships Having friends can be a blessing from God. Meaningful relationships can be established that go beyond the surface. Our friends can share in our joys and our sorrows, and know us almost as well as we know ourselves. They become dear to us for a friend loveth at all times. (Prov. 17:17a) We must remember, however, to choose our friends carefully (Prov. 12:26). For some can lead us away from God, and into many foolish and harmful lusts. O how many wish they would have heeded this admonition? We must also seek to be a good friend. Scripture speaks of a man sharpening the countenance of his friend (Prov. 27:17), and that the wounds of a friend are faithful (27:6). We ought to be willing to seek our friend's good, and that may involve telling him what he may not want to hear, or offering wise counsel in a difficult time. The same is true when he tells us what we may not want to hear. An endearing verse in Scripture is found in Exodus 33:11a - So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. (NKJV) It should give us great joy to know that God wants to be our friend and have that type of relationship with us. Jesus told His apostles, "... I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you." (John 15:15b) Friends share their thoughts and feelings with one another, and thus have a deep and valuable relationship. That is what God has offered to us. Are you a friend of God? His Son, Jesus, told us how to be: "You are My friends if you do whatever I command you." (John 15:14) Brotherly, Jamie Bible Question: Scripture warns us to make no friendship with what type of person? Answer: See back page
