April Unbelievably, some shops have complained that Springfield children are riding around their premises on scooters!
Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome to the April edition of our newsletter. This one is much shorter than previous ones due to the fact we have only had two ‘April’ weeks back in school!
The manger of Veritas fostering agency, who is our next door neighbour, constantly complains about our parents parking in their car park or indeed blocking the whole road when dropping off children. Shockingly, they have also witnessed one of our parents allowing their child, upon leaving school to urinate up their back wall in the yard area and on more than one occasion.
Below you will read about how Year 5 did on their sponsored walk and how they acted as real ambassadors for our school, out in the community. When Springfield children go out on trips and events, we always receive such positive comments about how fantastic their behaviour and attitude is. They are a real credit to our school and Springfield families. However, just recently I have had less positive comments about the behaviour , of what I know is a very small minority of children and parents, from our local community and other Springfield parents.
I also receive weekly complaints from responsible Springfield parents who are extremely worried, upset and angry about the parents who persist in either parking irresponsibly and illegally outside of
Diane Smith, who is the manager of ‘The Square’ has reported that she is extremely worried about the speed children are travelling at on bikes and scooters in the pedestrian areas of the town centre.
school or who put their children and others in danger by stopping their cars in busy traffic and almost throwing their children out into the road to get to school. As Headteacher, I am rightly very proud of our school and it is upsetting for us all to receive such complaints. I believe we have an excellent reputation in Sale and all Springfield children, staff, parents and governors have a duty of care to uphold our reputation and take responsibility for the safety and well being of the community. Thank you for taking time to read this. Mrs Chard.
Y5 Sponsored Walk Always willing to rise to a challenge, Year 5 did extremely well on our annual 10-mile sponsored walk last Friday. Thankfully, the weather was on our side and it turned out to be a glorious day. Kitted out in our outdoor gear, we set off in the early bright sunshine along the Bridgewater Canal towards Dane Road. Carefully shimmying along the main road towards Priory Woods, Year 5 showed great fitness, enthusiasm and determination right from the start – a sign of a good day to come! So eager to press on, and showing no signs of early fatigue, we bypassed our usual first stop and marched through Priory Woods towards Sale Water Park. Finally it was
time for a break, so we had a brief pit stop by the water. Just as the sun broke through again, we set off towards the River Mersey where we merrily made our way down along stream, bumping into Mrs Gresty and her dog along the way. Almost time for lunch, but we were making such good time that we arrived at Chorlton Water Park sooner than any previous year, so we had a long play in the park before Mrs Garbett finally gave us the green light to tuck in.
Fed, watered and well-rested we set off again through Chorlton Water Park in a loop that took us back through Priory Woods, arriving back at Springfield at 3:25. Excellent timing Year 5! Year 5 showed incredible spirit throughout the whole day, and we ended the day feeling confident and excited about our trip to Langdale. Not long to go now!
