AQA AS & A Level Religious Studies Course Overview A course which ensures students have a thorough understanding of diverse philosophical and ethical viewpoints. The course features a variety of relevant and contemporary themes such as Life after death, animal ethics Utilitarianism, to help inspire engaging classroom discussion. Students will also gain critical and evaluative skills sought after by higher education and employers. The core religion studied is Christianity.

Arguments for the existence of God. Evil and suffering. Religious experience. Religious language. Miracles. Self and life after death. The nature and function of religion.
Ethical theories. Issues of human life and death. Issues of animal life and death. Introduction to meta ethics. Free will and moral responsibility. Conscience. Bentham and Kant.
Assessment Written exam: 3 hours, 100 marks, 50% of A-level Questions Section A: Study of religion – one two-part question worth 10 marks and 15 marks relating to the religion chosen (25 marks). Section B: Ethics and religion – two two-part questions worth 10 marks and 15 marks (25 marks each). Section C: The dialogue between ethical studies and religion – one unstructured synoptic question from a choice of two (25 marks)
Entry Requirements Standard Level 3 entry requirements – at least 5 GCSEs A*-C including English Language & Maths.
Progression RS at A Level can lead to higher education courses in Philosophy, Religious Studies etc. It is a qualification that shows awareness of moral issues and is highly valued by many professional jobs sectors such as finance etc
