Oregon Youth Teams Compete in Playdowns, Feb 6th – 8th What are “Playdowns”? Simply stated, Playdowns are the regional playoffs. During the month of March each year, the Wisconsin Area Hockey Association (WAHA) conducts State Tournaments for each youth team (Squirts, Peewees and Bantams) by division (1 – 4) and team level (A, B or C).

WAHA divides the state into 6 Regions, and within each region exists the 4 Divisions. Oregon Hockey is in Region 4, Division 2. The region/division Playdown champion at each level advances to the State Tournament. In order to determine a champion, each of the 6 regions conducts what are called "Playdowns" in February. In early January, all of the teams are seeded within their region, division, and level. The seeding will make up the regional playoff bracket pairings for the Playdown games in February. Playdown game winners advance in the playoffs until a champion is determined to represent their region at the division and level in the State Tournament. On occasion, a runner up also advances to the State Tournament. For those teams fortunate enough to advance to State, it can be a truly great experience for players and parents. Certain teams may receive a “free pass” to the State Tournament and not participate in the Playdown games. For example, a “free pass” is given to the association’s equivalent team for hosting the team, division and level State Tournament at their location. Oregon Hockey will be hosting the 2B Squirt State Tournament March 14 – 15, 2015 at the Oregon Ice Arena. Therefore, Oregon Hockey’s Squirt B team receives a “free pass” to the State Tournament and is not required to compete in the Playdowns this year. Region 4 Playdown brackets, game schedules and locations can be found on the Region 4 website: http://www.region4hockey.org/playoffs/brackets.php State Tournament dates and locations can be found on the WAHA website: http://www.wahahockey.com/tournaments/state-tournament-sites/2015.html Show your Oregon pride and support for Oregon Hockey! th th  Follow Oregon teams at various locations during Playdowns Feb. 6 – 8 . th th  Come to the Oregon Ice Arena to watch other Region 4 Playdowns Feb 6 – 8 .  Cheer on our Oregon teams advancing to State in March. th th  Come to the Oregon Ice Arena to cheer on the Squirt Bs in State March 14 – 15 . .

WAHA Region 4 Hockey Council - No Tolerance Policy As teams participate in Playdowns and State Tournaments, we ask that all spectators, parents, coaches, and skaters be familiar with the Region 4 No Tolerance Policy. If a coach, player, parent, or spectator becomes unruly and displays verbal or nonverbal abuse, they may be ejected from the game. If the refs perceive potential, or an ongoing conflict, off or on the ice, they have been instructed to avoid verbal or physical attempts to communicate with the person(s), and are to call 911 for assistance. DCYHC supports the Referee game officials and will not tolerate angry words or gestures directed towards Refs from the bench or spectators. Not only is this behavior poor example to our children on how we treat authority, it also quickly lowers esteem for your Organization as a whole. Please familiarize yourselves with the Zero Tolerance Rule. Dane County Officials are having some difficulty obtaining and retaining young officials. Often times the officials are adolescents just like your son and or daughter. These officials are learning the ropes. Dane County needs young officials to progress and continue developing their referee careers. If you hear someone "Ref-bashing" pretend for a moment that Ref is your son or daughter. Inform the person of the Zero Tolerance Rule. Dane County will thank you...and so will the others in the stands.

U8 Half-Ice Tournament, Feb 13th – 14th We are preparing to host the Oregon Panther Ice Classic U8 Half-Ice Tourney February 13-14. DIBS will be posted soon and you will see plenty of volunteer opportunities. Here’s a quick description of each duty: Clock: U8 games are not scored nor are there penalties. The volunteer running the clock simply needs to start and stop the time of the game and blow the horn every minute so that the 4-skater lines can rotate.

Concessions: In addition to the regular concession offerings, we will sell Walking Tacos, pizza and baked goods. 100% of those proceeds go to Oregon Hockey Association. Raffle Table: Volunteering at the Raffle table is a great job for a sales person! You will sell 2 types of raffle tickets. We have a standard prize raffle as well as a 50/50 cash raffle! Chuck-a-Duck: This volunteer sells small numbered rubber ducks to spectators. Between the 2nd and 3rd periods of the first 5 games, spectators will chuck their ducks onto the ice at a target. The owner of the duck closest to the target wins 1/2 the proceeds of duck sales for that round. Skills Competition: What a great opportunity for older skaters (PeeWees and Bantams) to earn volunteer hours and help the U8 coaches run the competition. Parents can help too. These volunteers will help time as well as record times in the fastest skater competition, keep track of accuracy shots, assist with the puck-handeling obstacle course, as well as quick set-up and tear-down of the skills competition. T-Shirt Table: We have a heat-press available to us and will sell tournament t-shirts and hoodies with the option for buyers to get names and numbers on the back. The volunteer running this table will take and distribute orders, collect $ and assist the heat press operators if needed. This is a great opportunity to raise funds for our youth association. Tournaments are a wonderful experience for our skaters. It takes a lot of volunteer hours to successfully host a tournament. We are grateful for your help with the Bantam tournament and appreciate any help you can provide for this tournament. Please feel free to email if there are questions. Gratefully, Julia Malcolm and Jenn Madson Oregon Hockey Tournament Directors
