Fabric F: Cut (15) 6-1/4" squares Fabric G: Cut (9) 6-1/4" squares Cut (2) 1-1/2" x 47-1/2" strips Cut (2) 1-1/2" x 55-1/2" strips Fabric H: Cut (2) 5-1/2" x 47-1/2" strips Cut (2) 5-1/2" x 57-1/2" strips
Block A Assembly: 1. Layer one 6-1/4" Fabric E square and one 6-1/4" Fabric F square, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner and sew 1/4" on each side of drawn line. Cut apart on drawn line to make two half-square triangles (Fig. 1). Make 17 half-square triangle units, setting aside 13 for use in Block B. 2. Repeat Step 1, using one 6-1/4" Fabric E square and one 6-1/4" Fabric G square (Fig. 2). Make 4 halfsquare triangle units. 3. With right sides together, layer one each of the half-square triangles from figures 1 and 2, with Fabric E triangles facing opposite each other. Draw a diagonal line as shown and sew along both sides. Cut apart along the drawn line and press unit open to form 2 quarter-square/hourglass units (Fig. 3). Make 8 Block A squares.
Block B Assembly: 4. Use Step 1 method to make half-square triangles with 6-1/4" Fabric F and 6-1/4" Fabric G squares (Fig. 4). Make 13 half-square triangle units. 5. Use Step 3 method to make quarter-triangle/hourglass units with Step 1 and Step 4 half-square triangle units (Fig. 5). Make 26 Block B squares.
Block C Assembly: 6. Use Step 1 method to make half-square triangles with 5-7/8" Fabric C and 5-7/8" Fabric D squares (Fig. 6). Make 16 blocks, setting aside 4 for use as border cornerstones.
Center Medallion Assembly: 7. Referring to Fig. 7, assemble blocks into 7 rows. Pay careful attention to block orientation. Sew rows together as shown. 8. Sew 5-1/2" x 35-1/2" Fabric A strips to sides of quilt top. Sew 5-1/2" Fabric B squares to ends of remaining Fabric A strips, then sew to top and bottom of quilt top. 9. Watching orientation, alternate sewing 5 Block A squares and 4 Block B squares together (Fig. 7). Make 2 rows, and sew to top and bottom of quilt top (bottom row is mirror image of top row).
