Andre Smith Men’s Basketball Head Coach

Andre Smith was named the first men’s basketball coach for Lourdes College. The Indianapolis, Indiana native is a 1991 graduate of Thomas Carr Howe high school, where he was the all-time leading scorer (1991-2008) and all-city, all-sectional performer as a starting varsity freshman. As a player, Smith got his start in college basketball at Lakeland College in Matoon, Illinois. As a sophomore, he finished as the fourth leading scorer in the nation at 27.6 points a game and earned Juco -American second team. He was also listed by NCAA Hoops as one of the top junior college players. Smith continued his playing career at Youngstown State University (1993-1995), leading the team in scoring, steals, and assists. Smith was placed on the all-newcomer team as a junior and earned team MVP both seasons. During his senior season, Andre was recognized as player-of-the-week several times and was the conference's fourth leading scorer. He then went on to play professional basketball both in the U.S. and in Europe. In Europe, Smith served as the head coach of the Croatian basketball team for two seasons, leading them to an impressive 45-10 overall record. He then returned to Youngstown State and joined Dan Peter's staff as assistant coach from 1997-1999, helping to guide the Penguins to a 20-season win in 1997 and reaching the conference tournament championship. The following season, the team advanced to the conference tournament semifinals, bringing the Penguins their first back-to-back winning seasons in over 10 years. In 2003, Smith stepped into women's college basketball as the assistant coach for Thiel College under Artina Trader, helping the Tomcats to reach the second round of the President's Athletic Conference. The following season, the Tomcats earned a third place regular season finish and hosted a first round playoff contest. Andre was hired in 2005 as the head coach and general manager for the International Basketball League’s Mahoning Valley Wildcats, leading the team to a 15-5 record that included three league allstars and a league MVP candidate. From 2006-2009, Smith served as assistant men's basketball coach at Thiel College under Tim Loomis. At Thiel, he was instrumental in bringing the program to new heights -- increasing wins and developing a first team all-conference player and three members of the all-Newcomer team.

LeRoy King Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach  Leroy King serves as the men’s assistant basketball coach for Lourdes College. The Muskegon Heights, MI native is a 1991 graduate of Muskegon Heights High School. King began his college basketball career at Kalamazoo Valley Community College in 1994, where he led the team to a 30-2 record. He then went on to star at Youngstown State University (19941996). King began his coaching career in 1999 as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Owens Community College under Jim Welling, a role he served through the 2007 season. In his eight years at Owens, Coach King played a pivotal role in recruiting and developing the talent necessary to keep Owens among the elite junior colleges in the country. During his stay, the Express captured 6 league championships, made three NJCAA national tournament appearances, and finished the 2000-2001 season ranked #1 in the nation. In addition, several of Coach King's players went on to play at the division one level, including three who were awarded NJCAA All American honors. King coached at Lake High school in 2008, before going to Central Catholic High school as an assistant. In 2008-2009, he helped lead the team to a 14-8 record and finished as the City League runner up. The 2009-2010s eason was a monumental one for Central Catholic as the Irish exploded to a 21-3 season and captured their first City League championship in 42 years. In addition, they finished the season as sectional champs and district runner up. King holds a B.A. in social work from Youngstown State University and works at Harbor Healthcare as an intervention specialist.
