1. General Trade Practices – Concurrently Evaluated The examination will begin with an evaluation of general trade practices. This involves an assessment of equipment and supplies and the candidate's dress code. Sanitary and hygienic practices are a part of the evaluation but these are also assessed throughout the examination. Failure in this section may result in disqualification.
2. Men`s Modern and Trendy Haircut – 35 minutes

NO GUIDES/GUARDS are to be used. Demonstrate use of scissors throughout haircut. Demonstrate scissor and clipper over comb if necessary. Demonstrate the use of thinning shears and razor. Demonstrate hair removal of 1” minimum. Demonstrate finished style appropriate to model. Demonstrate draping procedures. Demonstrate use of tools and equipment.
LIVE MODEL 3. Men’s Technical Taper Hair Cut – 45 minutes Candidates will be evaluated on the following:

Demonstrate open taper on the back natural hairline NOT BLOCKED. Demonstrate hair removal of 1” minimum. Demonstrate finished style appropriate to model. Demonstrate draping procedures. [email protected] BARBERING PROGRAM FAST TRACK EXAM INSTRUCTIONS 400 HOURS A. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS AND REGULATIONS (Read Carefully) 1. Each candidate should bring for the registration of his/her exam a confirmation letter, model waiver form, current photo identification for candidate and model (driver’s license or passport) and a CLEAR photocopy of this photo ID. Registration time is 8:30 am of scheduled exam day. 2. Practical exam will take place from 9:00 am to 10:45 am. Theory exam will commence following practical examination. 3. Upon commencement of the examination candidates must not communicate in any way with one another. Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification. 4. Smoking is prohibited on the premises where the examination is conducted including the washrooms. 5. Escorts and friends of candidates are not permitted at the premises where the examination is taking place. 6. In the event of an illness or injury, candidates must submit a medical certificate to the Association attesting to the nature and duration of the medical conditions or forfeit all exam fees which have been paid. 7. Examiners present at the exam are not permitted to respond to any inquiries by candidates regarding the results of the exam. The exam results will be mailed to candidates as soon as they have been recorded (no telephone calls please). 8. No refunds or extensions of temporary permits will be provided for those failing to appear for examination. Subject to medical certificate as in number 5. 9. If candidates require breaks for medical reasons, please notify the examiners present before the commencement of the exam. 10. Absolutely NO GUM chewing throughout the entire exam. I. THEORY-to be arranged with BeautyCouncil office The theory exam conducted by the Board of Examiners in Barbering is designed to evaluate and ensure candidates have the broad spectrum of knowledge to serve the public. Candidates must earn a minimum of 70% of the questions to successfully pass the theory examination. If a candidate fails the examination, he or she must apply to retake the exam immediately. Candidates must comply with all instructions given immediately prior to the theory examination. Candidates must leave the premises immediately upon completing the theory examination. Waiting for candidates while completing theory examination must be done off the premises.

[email protected] II. PRACTICAL EXAMINATION (80 MINUTES) Any interpretation of these rules and regulations is solely the decision of the Examining Board. Examiners may at their discretion require additional demonstration by the candidate in order to prove competence. B. BARBERING EXAMINATION GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS & REGULATIONS (Read Carefully) 1. Candidates must register with their male models and fully completed model waiver form prior to commencement of the practical examination. 2. Upon commencement of the examination candidates must not communicate with their models or other candidates (except to give direction to the model). Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification and candidate will have to appear for examination at a later date. 3. Proper sanitary practices must be observed throughout the period of examination. Candidates are required to appear with their own professional equipment and supplies. Borrowing is strictly prohibited. 4. Candidates should present themselves professionally (black pants, white or black shirt and closed toed shoes, no athletic shoes). Failure to conform to this dress code may result in disqualification. Lab coats as outwear are acceptable. Good grooming with proper attention to personal hygiene particularly regarding the hair, face and hands is mandatory. Shoulder length hair must be fixed off the face and jewelry which might interfere with any aspect of the examination must be removed. 5. Candidates must furnish ONE MALE MODEL with suitable hair for the examination. The model must: Be free infections, inflammations or other medical conditions of the scalp Be 19 years of age or older; if between the ages of 16 and 18, the model must have written consent of a parent or guardian. Models younger than 16 are not accepted. Appear at the examination with freshly shampooed hair (failure to do so will result in the possible disqualification of the candidate). Hair may neither be shampooed nor reset on the premises following the examination. Models must not be practitioners in any cosmetology profession. C. Sanitary and hygienic practices are part of the evaluation but these are assessed throughout the examination. Failure in this section may result in disqualification. b) Demonstration of Men’s Modern and Trendy Haircut – 45 minutes c) Demonstration of Men`s Technical Taper Haircut – 35 minutes D. EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES Candidates must bring all professional equipment and supplies (no drug store supplies) required as per these instructions for practical examination.
