The Beeville ISD Food & Nutrition Services is managed by a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students’ health, well being and their ability to learn. We participate in the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Afterschool Snack Program and Seamless Summer Program. All these programs are administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In addition, Beeville ISD Food & Nutrition Services follows the regulations of the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), Bee County Health Department and BISD Board of Trustees. Beeville ISD Food & Nutrition Services receives money from the federal government under the four federal programs we operate. Food & Nutrition Services believes good nutrition and learning go hand in hand. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices. We provide students with access to a wide variety of appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students. Food and beverages sold or served at school meet the nutrition recommendations of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, 2010
Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Texas Department of Agriculture’s (TDA) Texas Public School Nutrition Policy. Menu development is established according to the popularity of the food based on student input and participation figures. Each menu item is then nutritionally analyzed to ensure it meets the federal requirements enforced by USDA. This year will bring new nutritional guidelines for each grade level. These guidelines were put in place when President Obama signed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act December 2010. All items served in the federally reimbursed Home-style Etc. line must meet the following guidelines. Currently, A-La-Carte lines are exempt from these guidelines but Beeville ISD Child Nutrition Services continues to strive to meet the guidelines on all serving lines.
