The earliest zr..arriage record on file in yakima. County is dated Nov. 25, ,1877, the eC!.rlierrecortis bavingbeen lost 'in the courthouse fire of 1880. 'Between 1877 and 1891, two volume?, in which the returns made by officials who, performed marriages were copied" exist. Applications for licenses for these marriages were recorded in a book of Marriage Affidavits. Beginning in 1891, all marriages supposedly were listed in a IY.ia.rriage Register, compiled from ~arriage, Applications and Certificates of V~rriage, and all ~~rriage Certificates were supposedly copied into yolumes labelled ~arriage Certificates. AllthesevQlutlE1~were used in abstracting these Yakima County £'iarriageRecords. 'In a··number of cases, after 1891, a marriage record only appeared in one sourc,e,'probably sometimes ',because t~e license was obtained in another county and sometimes due to clerical error. A few Marr, iage Certificates were found to 'have been entered out of chronological order •
