LAST GAME: BENEDICTINE 34, ST. NORBERT 14 Big plays set the tone early as Benedictine opened a 28-0 lead at halftime, finishing the with nearly 500 total yards. Ryan Sample threw four first half touchdowns and Elijah Walker caught six passes for 110 yards. St. Norbert finished 10-0 in the regular season last year and was predicted to win the Midwest Conference again this season. ACCOLADES Junior quarterback Ryan Sample was selected as the NACC Offensive Player of the Week. Sample accounted for 372 yards passing and four touchdowns. The Manteno, Ill. native had nearly 200 yards in the first quarter and over 300 at halftime. Sample completed 24 passes including seven of over 20 yards. Benedictine has received a weekly honor from the conference in each of the first two weeks with Victor Johnson receiving a defensive nod last week. BULLDOG BITES Adrian has not played since tallying a 30-28 season opening win on September 2 in Oregon at Pacific. Quarterback Stephen Milarch threw three touchdowns in the win with kicker Cameron Cook making three field goals. The Bulldogs finished 7-3 last year with a 36-7 home win over Benedictine, forcing four turnovers in the MIAA-NACC Challenge. Adrian was selected to win the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association crown and will be the third straight preseason conference favorite opponent for Benedictine. Olivet, Benedictine’s opponent on October 22, tied for second in the MIAA poll. This afternoon’s game is the final contest of the day in the annual MIAA-NACC Challenge Series, which will continue through next year pitting opponents generally determined by last year’s standings as well as an interlock byeweek agreement for an additional contest. The all-time standings are 20-8 in favor of the MIAA, who swept last year. Benedictine and Adrian are meeting for a third straight year in the challenge with Adrian owning a 2-0 record.
