Jimmy Gallarda will be the player to watch for the rest of the Biola season. He’s been locked in on the mound in a closer’s role and as a seve-game hitting streak, making him a very valuable sophomore.
he Eagles have had a very tough go of it against Bethesda so far this season. Biola mustered up just a combined five runs against the Flames in two early-season losses at home. Bethesda won the first matchup 4-3 and the second matchup 5-2. Biola is 1-3 against BUC in the four previous matchups over the past two seasons. The first game between these two (Feb. 10) went extra-innings with the Flames scoring the gamewinning run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th. The next meeting (Feb. 24) was decided much earlier as a trio of RBI singles helped BUC take a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning and Adrian Peraza (#39) and five other Flames relievers held the Eagles scoreless until allowing two late runs in the bottom of the ninth. The two sides come into this one on opposite ends of the

spectrum, as Biola’s lost four straight games and nine of its last 10 overall and Bethesda’s won five in a row. The Flames are coming off of a doubleheader sweep against the University of Antelope Valley, where they outscored the Pioneers 16-5 and 18-1 in the road contests. Biola played against UAV at the end of March and split, winning game one 14-11 and losing the second game 7-10. The Eagles need to focus on getting some good pitching in this game and through the remaining three Golden State Athletic Conference series of the regular season. Pitching has been a weak point over the past few series, allowing six or more runs to opponents in 10 of their last 12 games. Biola is 6-16 this season in games where its staff allows six or more runs to the opposing team.

Jimmy Gallarda (#16) will be the bat to watch for Head Coach Jay Sullenger’s side. He enters play today riding a seven-game hitting streak, which is the secondlongest of any Eagle this year. The sophomore first-baseman/closer hit his first career homerun in the Eagles’ last outing at Eagles Diamond and has upped his batting average from .236 to .329 over that seven-game stretch. Dino Mares (#13) and Christopher Jacobs (#37) are two of the biggest threats the Eagles’ pitching staff will need to deal with, as both reach base over 39 percent of the time and have scored over 20 runs this season. They are two of three Flames to have touched home plate over 20 times this year. They are also the best power threats for a light-bopping Bethesda team, leading the squad with just four big flies.

Eugene Shin was added to the team as a walk-on at the last possible minute and he has turned into a productive player for Head Coach Jay Sullenger, logging 15 starts and 15 hits to this point in the season. Shin came to Biola after some time at West L.A. College and has made the transition from community college ball to NAIA baseball successfully, reaching base in 36 percent of his at bats this season. Shin became Sullenger’s primary starting catcher in the last outing against Bethesda (Feb. 24), going 1-for-4 in what was his first start of the season. He’s logged three multiple-hit ballgames since that start and has seven RBI to lead all catchers on the roster. Individual Career History

Jimmy Gallarda will be the player to watch for the rest of the Biola season. He’s been locked in on the mound in a closer’s role and as a seve-game hitting streak, making him a very valuable sophomore.
he Eagles have had a very tough go of it against Bethesda so far this season. Biola mustered up just a combined five runs against the Flames in two early-season losses at home. Bethesda won the first matchup 4-3 and the second matchup 5-2. Biola is 1-3 against BUC in the four previous matchups over the past two seasons. The first game between these two (Feb. 10) went extra-innings with the Flames scoring the gamewinning run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th. The next meeting (Feb. 24) was decided much earlier as a trio of RBI singles helped BUC take a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning and Adrian Peraza (#39) and five other Flames relievers held the Eagles scoreless until allowing two late runs in the bottom of the ninth. The two sides come into this one on opposite ends of the

spectrum, as Biola’s lost four straight games and nine of its last 10 overall and Bethesda’s won five in a row. The Flames are coming off of a doubleheader sweep against the University of Antelope Valley, where they outscored the Pioneers 16-5 and 18-1 in the road contests. Biola played against UAV at the end of March and split, winning game one 14-11 and losing the second game 7-10. The Eagles need to focus on getting some good pitching in this game and through the remaining three Golden State Athletic Conference series of the regular season. Pitching has been a weak point over the past few series, allowing six or more runs to opponents in 10 of their last 12 games. Biola is 6-16 this season in games where its staff allows six or more runs to the opposing team.

Jimmy Gallarda (#16) will be the bat to watch for Head Coach Jay Sullenger’s side. He enters play today riding a seven-game hitting streak, which is the secondlongest of any Eagle this year. The sophomore first-baseman/closer hit his first career homerun in the Eagles’ last outing at Eagles Diamond and has upped his batting average from .236 to .329 over that seven-game stretch. Dino Mares (#13) and Christopher Jacobs (#37) are two of the biggest threats the Eagles’ pitching staff will need to deal with, as both reach base over 39 percent of the time and have scored over 20 runs this season. They are two of three Flames to have touched home plate over 20 times this year. They are also the best power threats for a light-bopping Bethesda team, leading the squad with just four big flies.

Eugene Shin was added to the team as a walk-on at the last possible minute and he has turned into a productive player for Head Coach Jay Sullenger, logging 15 starts and 15 hits to this point in the season. Shin came to Biola after some time at West L.A. College and has made the transition from community college ball to NAIA baseball successfully, reaching base in 36 percent of his at bats this season. Shin became Sullenger’s primary starting catcher in the last outing against Bethesda (Feb. 24), going 1-for-4 in what was his first start of the season. He’s logged three multiple-hit ballgames since that start and has seven RBI to lead all catchers on the roster. Individual Career History
